i was looking for input on cages. i got a backyard deal that works but i have to stay on top of it. any how im going to start holding for 2 to 4 weeks. i would be very grateful for input and experience. i got one drawn up thats 4 foot wide 7 foot long and 32 inches high. a divider in the middle with 2 doors on top 12inches by 12 inches. with 1 inch gaps in the ends to slide plywood in and out. built from inch and half angle and steel grate. the width and heighth fit my trailer. you guys think this will wrk for me? probally average 8 to 10 in this but 15 is likely. welder is gonna charge 500 to build it so i thought i would check with you all first.pictures would be very helpful also. thank you and keep up the info ive learned so much from this site.

I had a boxtrap some what like the one you have discript. I call it my chicken house. It a roof on it and upstairs compartment. Here we or use to be able to us live bait. It had a drop door on it. Work real good on bobcats and foxes. In ten years or so I might have caught half dozen or so coyotes. Cage traps is not really for coyotes IMO.
Go to Trappment.com and check out the achives on Cage Trapping Bobcat. It a fellow in Ca. builds cages traps for bobcat. Also he traps cats. I don't remembe his name. He builds a nice and good trap. Call him, If he has time which I think He will take. He love to talk cagetraps and Trapping. He talk to me for 2 hours before I could get off the phone. I'm not complaing, He was a lot of good help and I really appreicate. IMO cages traps aren't good for coyotoes. When trapping land go prepare for everything. You can buy a small 200 amp welder from some dealer and you can learn to weld real easy. That is a electric welder, better know as cracker box The welding that you will be doing is basic and very simple. Build your own cage traps for bobcats and should a coyotoe want to commint. The end will be more pleasing. And hopeful better paid' Hope this helps, God Bless you and have a good time trapping. We gone lj3

Not in the live market but I don't see any reason to build it so heavy. (either for transport cage or holding) Angle iron frame and steel grate? I'd just use 1x1 mesh like is used on cage traps and ring it together.

1x1 would last a while but weak spots will come with rings. and coyotes will find the weak spots..im gonna build it to last a lifetime with no worries. at 75 a piece x 10 or 15 in holding its nice to know they cant escape...measurements was the info im after and placement of doors....if i look for the negative in anything i will find it.. if i dont then the answers come easier..

If youre gonna hold them that long, then separate them from each other. They do ok for a few days, but 4 weeks then some wont eat or drink and that wont work.alot of things work, but keep it as lite as possible, more important to keep them apart.

Sorry My Friends.I was in to a hurry to pass out some dumb information. On the other hand. I have a dog box that is 4X4X30" double compartment with doors on both side. I can slide it out of the truck on to my jd gator and don't have to worry about turning it around, to be able to us the doors. Also it has an apartment under the floor [ epanded metal], with a metal tray as large as the box. I have better luck with urine that I catch a day or two after harvest. I then transfer to holding pen. During breeding season. I will keep the female up to week, in the dog box. That 4'X4'X2" pan is hard to handle. But I'm just catching for myself. If I read right, You are building this pen all metal. That good, When season is over. Take a highpressure washer and give that pen a good good washing. Then go down to some paint store and buy yourself some real good RUST inhitor and paint it real good. If you don't , In about 10 years it will be rusted down. Now I speak those word from experences, 45years messing with dog pen of some kind or other. That urine is stong I wish lots of luck and sucess with your project. lj3
