Took the dogs out Sun and had a good run for the terriers. Few dings but everybody is good, ran them around a little bit the next day to help the soreness go away.
Anybody got any tips for a getting them ready to run again ASAP. Seasons almost done in KS gonna go again this weekend maybe again during the week. Just thinking it could be rough life for them this week though they would still love it.

Just don't let the cuts scab up hard and keep the dogs moving.Keep them well hydrated by flooding their food.I found out terrier's are super tough little dudes.Unless big cuts they will want to play by the week end.

I'm not a vet-
but one thing I always did after a hard workout with the hounds, is give them a 1/2 an aspirin with their meal. I think it really helps, in recovery time with the aches and pains of a tuff workout.

Feed and water them well. The rest takes care of itself. Unless a dog is hurt, 6 days is lots of recovery time.

The aspirin will make them rest easy by taking some pain away. One baby aspirin helped and putting some dark Corn syrup about a table spoon on feed will help to.Once again them terrier's are tuff little dogs they play ruff and the can take also.

marty- was a fellow in southern Iowa, that was one of the developers of Plott hounds, who also rasied beagles under the Karo kennel name- and he used so much karo syrup while feeding- why not?

I don't know of the guy but just put the corn syrup on the feed of injured dog for more energy. When I was little we had a bird dog that was sick and the doctor we had was a huge coon hunter he said give the dog dark corn syrup once a day. .

So I got this 3 legged male about a 2 mo ago. Kept him in a kennel in the house for a month or so. Got my bullet proof pen up and put him out there about the time I started hunting him and a female I got. All this time I thought he was sore. THE LITTLE BA$TARD IS POUTING!! Aint a thing wrong other than he's pissed he's outside lol. He has a monster personality thats for sure.
Getting into this terriers has been exciting and has added alot of good days to my life.

All great advice. I would also make sure you have the dogs a dry, warm, soft place to rest. That makes a HUGE difference in recovery time. I also use blue coat or some type of antibiotic topical ointment for any cuts and if they are bad enough, a shot of penicillin.
Dogs are tough and if you take care of them correctly they can do amazing things. Another thing to think about is how good of shape you keep them in and what you feed. Both can make a difference in recovery times. If I eat like crap, I feel like crap. If I go to the gym 4 or 5 times a week, I feel better and recover faster... same for dogs.
Take care and happy hunting.

Rockcreekcurs, agreed.
penicillian does wonders in healing cuts and making infections go away quick. always had a bottle in the fridge.

Penicillin is good but plan old sanitation keeping everything clean and I used Grandulex on the cuts even works good on me. .It is good for everything except around the nose and eyes.If really beat up Baytril was the only way to go.Penicillin is really hard on the kidneys.

what I used came in a bottle labeled "Combiotics" which as a penicillin blend- recommended to me by a couple of vets.
