Traps are being sprung pulled out to full length of chain a few hairs in the jaws bait gone but no catch circle.Could my trap pan be to light and would using a screen pan cover and four cooling help stiffen up the pan tension.possum and red foxes no problem having them in the trap.Area I'm in now has mostly coyotes using the area.Just hoping to get some answers from Montana users.

Sounds like they might be rolling. Pan tension should be about 2 pounds. Screen covers are great, I cut a notch or slit to go around the pan post and under the jaws

you can take a file and knock off the rust and such where the pan hooks on the jaw... you can also "set" them somewhat... set trap... flip loose jaw up... take thumb and slightly push on pan and it will "click" into place.. now its "ready"...
