I always thought male canines marked posts more than females after watching a few different sets get worked by the female first i am starting to question. Whats your observation?

Going back over some old books I found a FEMALE fox post set several times.

interesting read- thank you.
I found a couple of things to be interesting-
* Ground scratching occurs far more at the end of territories, than within
*the variations between when & where & who, various urination methods (ie flexed leg, etc) are used
* who double marks, and why
I would have been interested to see WHAT was used as a marking post vis a vis different classes. and if different things would be acted on different by classes

I don't use many post sets but I do sprinkle the backing to my dirtholes with urine. From looking at unsprung, tracked up sets in snow, I know that sometimes a coyote will ignore the hole with the lure or bait in it, but pee on the backing. Probably not all the time, but I'm guessing much of the time when I catch a coyote by the rear foot, it was getting in position to pee when it stepped on the trap. I don't see much differences in sex ratio of front to back foot catches, though it may be slightly tilted towards females. My guess is even if the the gals don't want to mark the post, they are at least interested in giving the post a quick sniff and sometimes that gets them caught.
