Just received the following report, a more comprehensive report to follow:
NAFA’s senior management is in Beijing and files the following preliminary report on the Beijing Fair.
Wild Fur buyers who traded in the following items have done well so far this season.
CANADIAN SABLE: This article has moved briskly at good margins even for sellers, who bought from our May, 2011 Auction. We should be able to sell Sables extremely well in February.
BEAVERS: Our efforts to bring Beaver dressing expertise to China appears
to be paying off. There is recognition that this article is priced attractively relative to current historical high levels of mink. There is great anticipation for our major offering of Beavers in February. Shearing and non-shearing types are expected to sell well.
MUSKRATS: There has been concern as recently as a month ago that this
item is overpriced. We are fully back at May, 2011 price levels. There appears to be trade acceptance at these price levels that should carry into February.
RED FOXES: This article is moving well, as are all foxes.
OTTERS: Strong interest, not just from China but also from other markets (Greece). For buyers who shear, singed Otters are just as useable as straight haired.
RACCOONS: This article is not doing as well as other varieties. There are
carryover Raccoons from last season in the hands of dealers, especially in smaller sizes and flatter goods. We should be able to sell big size, heavy goods in February especially the better colors, and wemay even be in for a pleasant surprise for the more commercial goods as we are selling first in North America.
