just when you think you have em figured out they break all the rules... my typical setup is the merger of two crop circles... dirthole up wind with pattern down wind... makes sense right??? another facing the opposite way... for changes in prevailing wind.. also a flat or pee set usually facing west in a triangle fashion... 30 mph wind from the north last night.. coyote in the south dirthole with opening upwind....UGGGGGGGHHHHH he had to smell it from the backside and circle it to work it

first of all- taking it home, unless caught in back yard, isn't hot. they set up in 30 minutes or less. not much difference skinning a coyote 1/2 hour dead vs one 5 hours dead.
hot means hot-
as someone thats skinned a few coyotes, I find there is no difference in blood on pelt hot vs cold-
and should be no great difference in blood while skinning-
you cut into either, and they bleed.

and actually, I find more of the "pumped" coyotes after set up-
those, usually big males, that are "pumped" each vein standing out- and those ARE a bloody mess- you can't hardly look at them without cutting a vein- I'd get a couple a week skinning at hme like that in past years
and I can't recall any this past year hot skinning. must be something that occurs after death, and takes a bit of time to occur.

5min from the house. got ta love It. Blood everywhere LOL That's why I always leave beaver laying around for a few days. Nothing bloodier then a fresh caught beaver. We're getting some snow right now so the coyotes out to be working the bait pile a little heaver In the next few days. Hung a few more Cables yesterday and moved a few.

agree on beaver-
beav, I was honestly surprized by how little blood the hot ones gave off- lopping was the most of it, but i got the same thing when in shed, which is why I quit doing it there- too much mess, but outside, let it drip. I carried water and towels figuring I'd be a mess, but most times just removing the gloves and i was clean, or as clean as I was going to get coyote trapping.
just the freedom from carcasses i nthe shed and al lthat entails- makes kinning i nthe field the way to go for me.
to be honest, if I was doing 1 or 2 now, i'd bring them home as well-
I enjoy my time in the shed as well- heat AND tunes cranked, a cold pop, smoke a ciggie or two-
