How many chew outs do you guys get compared to how many snares you set.I have got 30 or so snares on a 24 hr check and have had 4 chew outs in the last month or so.Dont want to use killer springs cause an occasional farm dog needs to be released.5/64 cable and cam locks.Something I can do or do I just live with it.

Larger cable will help some too.

Check your snares at daylight. 24 hours or longer = more chew outs.
Also switch to 1x19, 5\64 cable or use 3\32 which will help some..

Are your camlocks filed? Try smaller lops and set higher from ground. Coyotes might be getting part way thru your snares. Highly recommend kill springs

had a chewout on a 1x19 1/16" with a choke spring on it this week. Some just sit and chew after being caught. I think no matter what you do there will be a percentage of chewouts.
Four in a month though----something needs to change.

What state do you live in? Iowa nw corner all the sets are within 5 miles of my house. We check in the morning about half of the time and after school on the rest of the days.My 4 kids are the most important trapping partners I have but I cant wake them up at 4 to check traps everyday so we break it up a little School teachers dont understand why my kids are tired in school.Good times are sure to be had.I guess I will take a few chew outs cause without the kids it wouldnt be near as much fun

So essentially you are trying to live snare (due to dogs). I wouldn't be using a cam lock and I'd at least use 3/32 cable. The 5/64 and 1/16 are for killing snares only if used on coyotes. I'd never use them as a restraining snare on coyotes.

I lost three because of chew-outs this season. One was wrapped around a fence post (chewed out) and two others just stretched the cable out and chewed it off. 3/32" cable is all I use. I had one other yote that had the cabled in-his-mouth, so he had to have his mouth open when he went through the loop. I got there before he had time to chew through it. Maybe my loop was just a tad smaller than it should have been. That's about the only thing I can think of anyway.......... At any rate, I had a very interesting and educational (and productive) season.........lots of fun
