To top it off, i had my 7 yr old brother mason on the trapline with me! what a christmas treat!!1 im 17, been trapping since i was 10 and never had been in many catty areas so i never tried. Well two days ago i got permission for a good chunk of land and found two different sets of bobcat tracks, as well as coyote tracks galore! Set up, day one...2 coon and 1 coyote..check two! ONE GORGEOUS MALE BOBCAT!! Mason at the set, trying to pick up that big cat! whatta pretty tummy He said man this is heavy! My partner by my side!! For his hard work! he got a new pair of camo/leather cowboy (trapper) boots as well as a pair of deer antlers for show n tell and a new mb 550 rubber jaw, cant wait for him to see the antlers and the 550!!

We were walkin to the set, (area we cant drive much in) and talking about how he had never seen a bobcat live and uplcose, we come around the corner and we hear a wicked growl. He looked at me, i looked at him. we booked it around the corner and when we saw that cat jumpin i am pretty damn sure we both jumped up and down and did a little hollar. I let him shoot the cat since i dont have a catch pole and forgot to grab a snare to rig up to a big stick. he made a clean shot behind the ribs.

congrats on the cat-
Ketch All is for sure, the Cadelac of catch poles in my opinion and its what I use.
but they are spendy. for 1/3 or less of the price of a Ketch all, look at the new pvc ones that are out there- they are also spring loaded ( a feature that once used, you will not want to be without) meaning you can open the noose just by pulling a handle.
stay away from the cheap hog catchers you can buy at farm stores- if all you have they work, but not spring release, and poor cable that twists out of shape easily.
a tip on using them- sometimes canines really want to grab the cable, and a very agressive one can do damage to the plastic covered cable on the Ketch Alls- so take a 4' or so stick or broomhandle, and insert it through the loop, so its sticking out of the loop a foot or so- then approach the coyotes- 99 times out of 100, he will grab the stick, allowing you to slip noose on without him grabbing the cable.
