Saw this stuff at Wal Mart. It is called Ice Melt. It is pet friendly, cost about $7.50 a gallon and comes in granules. It appears it is odorless and non corrosive. Anyone using it. Good, bad or otherwise?

Used to use calcium chloride mixed with peat moss and dry dirt...now I simply use peat moss and a small amount of dry dirt - pure peat in the bottom of the hole and a 5% peat moss 25% dry dirt ratio the rest of the way...have no problems with frozen traps or rusted traps...

mag chloride is far less corrosive than calcium for sure and will work better in lower temps. It will leave a wey spot for sure and make sure to keep bag sealed up very tight as it draws in mositure quickly, if left un sealed it will be hard as a brick in a few days time.
