overall happy with prices- could have gotton more perhaps, could have gotten less if selling elsewhere- but heres what it is-
mink- males averaged $18, females $12 put up
rats- not as high as I hear, but the guy there after me, had 1300+ rats, and he was selling at a similar price- anyways, $6 and change average on rats put up. $8 high.
badger- had a couple more nice ones, unusual for this time of year- $40
beaver- not as bad as I thought- $17 on adults, $10 on 2 year olds, $6 kits for about a $12 average- green.
castor- $40 lb on green
coon- tuff tuff grade- poor goods have little value- a guy was there with early coon put up, and had a hard time selling them. I had not a lot of coon, but nice coon, averaged $15 green
coyotes- again, a tuff grade, and I had more reddish tinged than I liked, but averaged $30 on 26%, $20 on 54% 3% at $4 (including that pup) the rest at $10 for an overall average of just over $20. not as nice an overall collection as last year, but a little over 80% sold between $20 and $30. Since I start early, not too unhappy with that-

Tman do you think your avg was enought to warrant the work of fleshing and stretching those coyotes? Serious question, I'm wondering what your avg would have been selling them green? Could you have made more with that time actually trapping or not?
I think it would be different if you where shopping fur around and if needed send to auction, but your like many others that sell local so is the avg differance enough to warrant the hrs spent putting up anything but mink and rats knowing your selling local anyhow?

without a doubt TC- green would have been half that.... carcasss a fourth that. and its really not that much time- a hour or a little more in the shed each night- 4 hands makes the work easier.
I find coyotes to be the fur where you make the most putting them up compared to not-
beaver $3 less green, coon about the same, rats $1 less in round, .50 cents less green.
no, I wouldnt have trapped any harder or more if selling them green.
and besides- I simply like longhaired fur- its a labor of love

We cant trap between 10 pm and 5 am, randy. Its a good time to put the fur up
Prices are about right.
Rats might have been 50 cents cheap.

so your green coyotes you feel would have been a 10.00 avg over your 20 avg put up?
I understand the labor of love you have for putting up coyotes just wanting to see what the real differance in price would have been.

Labor of love? I get $6.00 to scrape and board a coyote, no skinning. Now that's a labor of love. Had a disaster In the fur shed last night. Pictures to follow I hope.

Coyotes are easy to skin.
Open up the back legs, put on skinning machine and push the button.
Voila.

coyotes are also easy to skin hot.
but on cold, a machine is the way to go. I used a machine at Jeff's in KS, and liked it.

Sold fur today. I'm not really thrilled but believe that I was treated fairly - or I wouldn't have sold. All numbers are cash in your pocket rounded to the nearest dollar. All fur was put up unless otherwise specified. Canuck bucks of course. Beaver: 25 Otter 65 Fisher 63 marten 48 mink (only 1 and it was damaged) 10 the one coon unfleshed 10 3 legged belly swollen wolf 35 (buyer said that he would have to ship it as a coyote) lynx 118 squirrels .75 weasels 2.50 red fox 32 cross fox 42 rats 5 (all beaver conibear caught) It's nice to have some cash just before Christmas. I don't know if I'll ship or sell local any other fur. The 2012 auctions will help me decide.

The U.S. dollar is about $1.06 Cdn. right now. So not a huge difference. I specified the currency because it often pops up as a question.
Sreven49: what is the EE that you're a proud shipper to?

Lots of people here agree with you. It would help our exports. It was also nice to get an auction check in U.s. dollars and add 30% or more!
But we don't really want to weaken our dollar. However, we would like you to strengthen yours!

musher, heard that somebody in our neighborhood is giving 10$ averaged on rat. It could be. But they aren't caught in 280's and 330's! The dog and trigger seem to ventilate the hide fairly regularly.
