winding down week #3, and falling a little behind making "THE GOAL" but still on pace for another 100 year and after that we shall see.
I am NOT complaining about the weather, but too much of a good thing can be bad.
so far, have had literally a couple of drops of rain the first week, that didn't even get the gravel dust down, and nothing else but 50-60 degree days, 30-40 degree nights.
here's the forecast for next 15 days-
www.accuweather.com/us/mn/lake-city/55041/forecast-month.asp
we had a shot of rain chance last night, but nary a drop.
note the next weather event, is a week from tomorrow where, to break things up, a "dreary" day is forecast....
sure makes it nice tending traps, setting up, DRIVING where I want to go- but it doesn't do much to move things around.
Gun deer hunting starts sat, but that's not an overly big concern- most of my locations are out of deer hunting habitat, or on shared farms we get along. but it does mean a few coyotes will be shot by "helpful" hunters.
First 2 loops have done well, this loop is weak-
the first 2 loops were isolated cover in barren land, so was right on top of them. this loop has almost continuous habitat, far more timber, coulees, etc and apparently I'm not on top of them....
but still coyotes everyday.
only 4 possums, maybe a doz skunks.... not trying too hard for coon, and what I have been getting is ALL 20+ lbers, no little ones. A local coon hunter came by and wanted to know if I'd skin and take in his coon for him- I told him sure- $5 a coon for skinning and selling for him- he said fine.
had a small coyote killed by eagles- that's new to me- had carcasses there, and when I came up 6 bald eagles got up, I had assumed from the carcasses, but 1080 told me it was they that killed the coyote by dive bombing
2 days ago I caught a pup- and when I say pup- I mean he had milk on his lips- he couldn't have been more than 10-12 weeks old. like pups I've caught in June- didn't even have that coyote "look" yet- still puppy features.
I skun it out for the novelty- put him up on a fox board and will put it in with the fox when I sell, just to watch Lee's expression....
speaking of fox, been hearing "lots of fox" but have only taken 3, and only 1 badger.. everything, is just not moving. not seeing hardly any deer or turkeys either-
2 and a half weeks to go- and one thing that WILL keep me warm at night, is knowing no snow. last year on Nov 5th, we got 10+ inches...fun times!
best location has been 6 in 4 checks- single, single, double double and have several with 5 in 5 and 6 checks.
have some pics, will post when is a done deal.
been getting T & PC again after years of not getting it, must be an association thing from somewhere, and had a chance to look at latest fur report- and if the world doesn't go to hell too soon, prices look fairly optimistic esp with sold out coyotes, etc.
so how are your seasons going?
