bow season starts earlier here this year i think the first one i kill ill grind up for bait my question is how much castor to add per lb of meat?

I can answer it this way-
i used ot make bait for ocon/canies by simply cutting up a bunch of vennison scraps, then putitng 2-3" in bototm of ice cream bucket-
then adding a fine covering of chopped castor, add more vennison, more casotr, etc-
and the total castor used in one pail would be 1 side of an "average" semi dried castor- I wanted some paste to still be there.
add water is need (usually plenty moist with the vennison), let sit in sun a day or two, mix well, let sit another day or two, mix then freeze.
not a fancy bait- but an effective one

my castor i bought is dried and grinded i have 4 ounces you think that will be enough for 5 gallons of ground deer meat?

more than enough
I'm not enough of a bait maker to give you a good answer, but can onlty say if it ws me, with dired and ground, i'd try it first with an oz, mix it up good and let it sit- then give it the smell test. i'd think you'd have a good castor odor mix, if not, add a bit more.

First you had better check and see If using a game animal for bait Is legal In your state.
And In my opinion beaver or rat meat makes a lot better base for a bait then does venison.

its legal i can use anything as long as its not exposed.i have some beaver meat and i agree its good bait but im gonna try deer meat for a change.we have lots of deer here they are actually becoming a problem cant grow green beans hardly because of them. i see them regular 20 to 30 in a herd.

the dnr gave us a longer season this year but we cant take as many bucks i live in the part of w.va that only has bow hunting for deer.mingo county.we go to wayne county to gun hunt if i buy the tags i can harvest 11 deer and thats without the damage permits they are free but got to be on private property and causing damage our herd needs to be thined out see more roadkilled deer than possums.

maybe- but I found out that for me it doesn't when tainted, and mixed with castor. I've tried both chopped up rat and beaver, and while it worked, it didn't work as well for me.
in my opinion, the smell of venison has a natural and universal appeal to predators. in any case, I made and used it for many years.
in mn, its legal to use GAME SCRAPS.
