Was talking to a guy today that uses them for flushing yotes out of culverts or getting the fight started when the hounds wont start it.
Also said he never worked more than 2 together because they would fight each other. Anybody else seen this out of patties?

It happened to me once had 2 Black dogs that got in a ground fight and only one made it out.I would never put 2 dogs on any animal ever again.I was first starting out and never new any better I do now.If one dog can't handle the work load you need to start a different blood line. They were both good dogs and I messed up.Some time you learn the hard way but you remember well. And on coyotes I think it would be very bad news for a 15 lb. dog on a 20 lb. plus coyote when both animals are playing for keeps.

I wish I could get one of my videos to download, but I do use my little black dogs on coyotes all the time. On the trapline, denning pups, and also decoying. I have a male and a female, and I am super lucky that they work so well as a team. If one starts the fight, either coyote, neighbors cow dog, or one of my hounds, the other starts in on the other end. I use to run them with my hounds all the time, but now I can't because the little black bastards have got so game / tree possessive. If one of my hounds jumps on them at the tree, then the fight is on, and I can't have that. I have to now bring them in on leashes. My patterdales are not completely dumb. My male is a cheap shotting mean little fart. He will go in and do the "death shake" on a coyotes ass, and before the coyote has turned to fight him, he is already attached to his ear on the other end. Fast as hell. With two of them working a coyote, the coyote does not know what to do. If you have a Patterdale that has not learned "boundaries" you could have yourself a dead dog, or one hell of a vet bill.

There are much better dogs for use as "Coyote Dogs"... The Patterdales are just to small. They don't have the ass to back up their mouth so to speak. I have used Patts and Jagds as well, both are to small IMO to be one on one "Coyote Dogs".
I have a 30 lb gamebred pit female and even she is a little small if there are more than one Coyote. One on one, it's a quick fight if the Yote will stick around!
Happy Hunting.

Not to change the subject, but does anyone know of any staffshire terriors around? I knew of a guy here in Oregon that was breeding his Patterdales and Jadgs to some really small staffshires (which to me look like mini pit bulls). He was having really good luck with them, but have not heard from him in awhile.
And Mason, I agree in general Patterdales probably are a little small for coyotes. I'm probably teeter tottering on getting in trouble. Any of my past vet bill's should remind me. Last vet bill on my little patterdale was $600 after he treed a 120 pound tom lion by himself. We was proud as hell, all 17 pounds of him treeing it, but he got a collapsed lung somewhere between him treeing and me getting there.

Here is a video of my Patterdale and Jadg working a coyote on a set. This is what I find when they find one on a drag.
