I have recently purchased some #3 Bridgers. I am a little uneasy with the chain hookup on these traps. I can for-see some possible problems. Just wondering about other's, thoughts on this setup. Any downside? Mike!

If you aren't going to baseplate them, I would tack weld the j-hook shut for starters. Most people like some way to attach the chain off the bottom. Thus reason for baseplating with a D-ring.

get rid of those cheap swivels and look all links over well this is foreign made chain and not the best, I would get rid of the swivels and j hooks and order some MB crunch proofs for saftey sake and to sleep better at night. Those j hooks are junk open and close them once and many will break in 2! The traps themselves are a good trap they just need to rework the chain and swivels j hooks IMO.

the bridgers i bought, needed extensive working on the pan/dog to get all that free travel out of them. some even bottomed out with the free play without firing.

yep and soon MTP will have there version in a bridger for all to buy.
I to run some dogless like the jakes and modified dogless sterlings but I still like the bridger due to jaw size and something about running a dog on trap specially those with PIT pans makes a great coyote/cat trap.

Mike is asking about the attachment to the frame. Has anyone had that rectangular attachment ring fail?

Total junk. I bet If you take a screw driver and place It In that connector and twist It It will come apart. I know that's what happened to most of the 1.65s I had.

Mike is asking about the attachment to the frame. Has anyone had that rectangular attachment ring fail? Nope, I've got all 10 dozen of #2s $ #3s setup a particular way using the square ring and have never even had one bent! I slid the ring up against the cross frame and just angled it so it was pretty much lined up toward the center of the cross frame underside and leaving room for my base plate and J-hook to still move freely. I then ran a short weld bead on one side of the square ring where it touches the cross frame under the pan.

But Seldom you welded It. That's why It never failed.
Hey Mike If your coming to the WTA fall meet I'll bring you some base plates. I have a couple 100 and don't need them.

I had one fail about 12 years ago. It could have been a lion but the ground was froze and there was no snow. That was the last time I ever set a trap with that ring. If spot welded it would probably be fine but I have trust issues. Looking back that trap was actually a northwoods but pretty much the same thing.

Mike - Fact: one reported failure in 12 years.
But, nobody trusts them, including me. That is why I had a friend weld baseplates on mine - right Beav. I also put crunch proofs on them.
