I think it means that State associations need to become more inclusive and less like good old boys clubs, (similar to some trapping forums). It is already happening in PA. I think the PTA is making big strides in becoming every PA trappers Association. There needs to be less ego maniacs and control freaks on these state boards, in positions of power. Also, the focus has to be on promoting trapping and less about advancing personel agendas.

I know longpond, it is a true shame, I'm sure there are say 10-20% of those license for coon hunters but still, the ITA should be running 65% or more on memberships, I just don't get people? For 15.00 a year you get the right to trap and a great magazine. Plus the power of the NTA, as ITA gives money to them each year! I wish with each license sold or how about contacting the DNR and putting an ad in the rules and regs booklet for the ITA?? I would donate 10.00 extra for the ad!

2003, PA had : 19251 adult resident 394 juniors 822 seniors an increase of around 1000 compared to the year before. Are more people trappin cause of the $'s being paid for hides or are they just getting back into it for the fun? Scrapper

The Pa. bobcat program is probably responsable for some increase, and predator hunting is getting popular too. I know some are dissapointed in the deer hunting and are turning to other things. But to double in three years, wow.

The PTA did advertise in the rules and regs book. Good idea, I think.
Expect the number of total licenses to increase again next year with the addition of two WMU's to the bobcat lottery.

This year will be the third year in the lottery, they say most trappers do get a tag by the third year, hope this year is the charm.

DJ,
This will be my first time applying. They just added 2C to the mix. I caught and released a bobcat three years ago and I hope I don't have to do it again. I wept openly. ;D

They are an SOB to release aren't they? Of the 6 that I have trapped in my life, I had to release 1 as it was very small and I suspect from a late litter, anyhoo, I used my jacket to cover it as had been suggested to me, the jacket was shredded ;D I did get the little guy released, but I think soon after that is when I bought my first catchpole, I keep it in the truck always.

I was very fortunate. I had just purchased a snare pole the previous summer. That sucker was like a tornado on the end of that pole. I released it from the safety of my truck. It ran under the truck and I had to lay on the horn to get it out of there. I hope no one was watching. ;D

On another note, Otter should not be underestimated in their strength and agility, luckily my waders took the brunt of that experience ;D

I can't imagine. I use mostly #11's in water. I would hate to have to try and compress both springs and hold onto the snare pole. It sure would pay to have an extra set of hands in that situation.

"I would hate to have to try and compress both springs and hold onto the snare pole"
Thats the problem with double springs- the springs have to basicly BE fully compressed for the trap to open.
LOL- heres a simple tip- kneel on the snare pole. Works good with both otter and coyotes.
