What is the purpose of inside laminations and will it effect the use of #3 monties on coyotes.

some states like maybe NY #3 Montanas too big so inside lams make em legal. they are now more LIKE Bridger #2 then for size.I THINK...

I never could understand how inside laminations make a traps jaw spread smaller. Jim

If a guy is using both inside and outside lamination, then it gives you a very nice round edge on both edges of the trap jaw. If you are using something like a Bridger, this is a big plus cuz they have sharp edges. On a dogless trap, then inside lams will be a pain to put in cuz you have to either notch the lam on the trigger jaw or more likely will do the lam strip in two pieces.
I like double lams, and it's just another reason to hate a dogless trap!

#3 montana is legal w/o inside lams in ny...just saying so as not to deter any from using them here.

ah but BadDog- the advantages of dogless make up for the pain of wanting inside laminations.................

A long time ago I learned to use dogless traps and actually NOW PREFER them over any others [those with dogs- anybodys].

X2 the problem that most folks have with the dogless traps is they dont know how to tune them , with a dogless trap you dont have to carrry a anvil to straiten out your trap after a yote uses it for a chew toy LOL

I made several trips to the factory in the early 80's and late 70's. I worked witht the founders grandson for several years and we occassionally would make the 25mile trip there JUST TO LOOK....I have an old instruction sheet somewhere they did on setup of the trap. That and hands on sure put me onto their use....the little 1 1/2's were tough but 2;s up became a favorite for me.THE best part for me is how low the pan sets in relation to the jaws and how well wire screen works for covers. I bet the shingles they use for cats out west really nice too.

There are couple excellent posts in archives on tuning dogless'. The one were Z showed chain saw file comes to mind.
Seems to me the ones I bought in 1980 were tuned when I got them. Levers tweaked, pans low etc.
Sold most mine off. Reason, magnetic to thieves, hard to buy more of same, and self firing when you press on jaws to hard while bedding.
I too toured the monty plant. At a time I did not have enough jingle in my pockets.
Different states measure jaw spread differently, IE, inside, outside, center.

I am into pan tension uniformity and perfection myself. Same page as Mr 39. No screwing around, just set the bloody trap and get. A little guide makes up for the tiny dead spot.
