your questipon Jason . . do you weld your own double jaws on a stock #1 1/2 Duke trap, or do you purchase stock Duke double jaws? Did you See Steves PICS --THAT IS JASONS WORK AND TRAP -be it duke, Victor or whatever--he puts his own jaw materilal in. I did see Steve's pics. But I am not seeing double jaws. That's why I asked. If you see double jaws in Steve's pics, please direct me to them so I can be educated. I was wondering if he puts something in like RK has to offer or if he's modifying Duke DJs.

So It's really not a true double jaw but a laminated jaw.

"I run Duke dbl jaws for coon, and feel you can not do any better than that for a long line trap."Jason . . do you weld your own double jaws on a stock #1 1/2 Duke trap, or do you purchase stock Duke double jaws? I'd still like to know the answer to this question.

What kind of abbrasive grinder deal are ya'll using to get such a nice smooth brushed finish? Mustela, that trap in the pic you have there looks like a normal duke DJ. I too like to tinker in modifying traps and such. I have built jigs for our hydraulic press to make baseplates, double jaws, snare brackets, and such....kinda fun. I'm not too particular and perfect like the traps above, but it's still gratifying. I have held multiple LARGE canines in 1.5 NW's that were modified and it's a nice feeling. Here are a few pics. of "super duke" that I tinkered up a couple yrs. ago. I'm gonna try some more stuff, just got the welders fixed and all. I made the double jaws down as far as was possible. Happy trapping. ScottW

I have some similar to Scott's and they work great, rarely an empty snapped trap. I use them mainly on blind coon trail sets. Too small for occasional yote, great otherwise.
How do the Jason 1 1/2s score, anyone use em? Reason I ask is I remember the chatter on here how coon pull out of fat rounded jaw 1 1/2s.
They sure do look good. I'd love to tour Js shop, with a pocket full of cash..

Scott, yes that is a normal, stock Duke double jaw #1 1/2 coilspring. Reason I put that up is what Jason said:
"I run Duke dbl jaws for coon, and feel you can not do any better than that for a long line trap."
So with the ability to modify traps as nicely as he does, I'm wondering if his comment here means he actually buys these stock Duke #1 1/2 double jaws and runs them for the longline.

Gotcha mus, sometimes I'm a little slow to process!
And yes Lee, a guy does have to have things to waste time on when he's not wasting time on something else, right?! Happy trapping. ScottW

Sorry, Hadn't been on here since last week. To answer your question about the Duke Dbl jaw...I baseplate the stock Duke dbl jaw, with side D ring, add machine chain with single nail swivels, run them stock until the springs need replacing, then replace with my wire levers. I think the stock dbl jaw with its stamped, 90 degree somewhat sharp edges, dead center in the jaw instead of anywhere else, is THE best way to hold a coon in water or land. The other dbl jaws that are out there for mods are more of a "chew guard" than anything. And they have their place on the line as well. The discontinued Victor dbl jaw cs would be a close second imo... Bigfoot..my springs were designed for the Duke/Victor 1.5 cs, although I have modified a couple hundred monties to fit my springs. I'm not that ambitious anymore lol, but I'll sure sell you the do-it-yourself kit... If you guys need me directly, shoot me a call...651-472-4530 Thanks! -Jason
