Because of a crazy rat trapper who was driving like a woman...LoL he almost created a huge crash on the highway 2 days ago... Policemen were looking for parked truck (trappers) along the highway and small roads near it. I've been trapping there for 6 years and policemen were tolerating our parked trucks and trappers and we could trap the flooded creeks close to it. Yesterday, a policeman gave me the cheapest ticket = 52$ He told me yesterday that the trapper they are looking for will get a $350+ ticket. And no more trappers will be tolerated (trucks parked) near a great place for trapping rats... it sucks!
Yesterday when I got my ticket, I told the policeman that tomorrow, I will have to pull my traps and I will be there doing the same thing. He replied and said.. If you get arrested again, just told the policeman that you had a ticket and you were informed. Believe it or not, today, first stop, was pulling a float and a SQ police car was behind my truck.
He was cool, I informed him and I was fine for the entire day pulling my traps. I've seen maybe a dozen police cars today while pulling....LoL
Oh well, I will try to get a special permit for next spring, I know where to get it but heard that it is very complicated but anyway.... Think I have found a way to get it.

That all sounds just so Canadian, with a polite exchange between citizen and a law enforcement officer who gave you the least expensive ticket. You didn't get cuffed and left face down in the gravel, no beating with the night stick, no pepper spray, didn't get tasered, didn't let the dog take you down, didn't draw his sidearm, only one squad car without 4 more racing in as backup so they can all confer as to what more they can charge you with.

Fresh rookie RCMP or QPP out of Regina..climbing up the ladder. Are there any approaches you can pull into? Are the road ways painted with a solid line,,,meaning no stopping? Go back and catch 4 more rats to pay for that ticket...or are they demerits on you lisence and go against insurance premiums?

At election time numerous political signs along the e-way where they had to of stopped to put them up. Could a trapper stop to trap NO. I made a post in a Michigan talk forum about it, hardly anyone seemed concerned. Jim

northof50, highway = no P for sure. But, like I said... We were find before, we could do it. There's like 50-75 ft of grass before touching the asphalt so we usually put our trucks as far as we can from the asphalt and there was no problem. I won't go back there this year...LoL because they know I was pulling yesterday and they were fine with me and if I play with them, they will play with me but I will loose for sure...LoL I need a special permit from the MTQ (provincial road ministry) Hard to get for fur trapping but not hard to get if you're doing ADC work for them. Like I said, think I've found a way to get it for fur trapping but it won't be this spring for sure, anyway... Rat season close in a couple days here and rats already look like they were shot with machine guns so......... I won't cry

they were fine with me and if I play with them, they will play with me but I will loose for sure
Isn't that the truth!
There are a few guys here, that always have trouble with wardens- the wardens are out to get them, etc, etc
and the reason, knowing the people involved, seems simple enough- if you are a scofflaw, they are going to make you an example. And a known scofflaw, is going to be talked about by the wardens
I find it much easier to do my best to obey every trapping/hunting law- and feel that gets talked about as well.

It is always interesting to read the Minn natural resource officers weekly charges list to see the infractions posted. Election year.........bring the goofs out of the woods barking at the police to do something all the time.
