How long do you trap each farm? Do you use a 4 wheeler or can you get by walking and using a truck? Do you get a written contract or just shake hands? Cash or 1099? Any problems with lost traps getting in balers and such? How many traps per farm?

from 2 days to 10 days
we use the truck- a 4 wheeler for 2 people and a dog is not practical, nor is hauling that much equipment, plus trialering, etc and etc
99% shake hands, some contracts with commercial
both
never with farm equipment- predators are the problem
up to 150

Do you go back later and set again in the summer or just once in the spring?

we trap from as soon as we can, until mid oct.
we hit every farm at every cutting. if no hay ready, always have a few pastures, rough areas to fill in.
had a farmer call this morning, asking if I was getting anxious-
I am!
but sounds like a rainy week- so all we can do is wait until it dries up.

Dries up, heck Steve over here in north central Wi its a mud hole with 14 inches of snow trying to melt, no frost and ground saturated full. Just hope no big rains as it will be one heck of a flood and the gophers will wash away lol...

Do you carry any kind of extra insurance? Do people want to see the gophers everyday or how do you count them ? How often do you get paid?

no extra insurance
I used to try to get paid in person, years ago, but it was hassle trying to find the farmer home during the summer. for the past 15 years or so, I just bill them out when I'm done for that period.
townships here- some pay monthly, some once a year.
