I have been given a bunch of mink carcases from a friend who raises them. The carcases i will freeze, but need to know how to preserve the glands. Do they first have to be tainted or not? Can they be preserved by putting a layer of sodium benzate over and mixing up. Maybe they can be kept in glycerine or just spread out and frozen. For those in the know what would you suggest.

not in the know, but do collect mink glands. I don't taint them at all. I lay them out flat on a board, for a couple of days, turn for a couple of days, then freeze.
When I'm ready to sue, I either cut up the glands as fine as I can, then mix- I know others don't recommend it, but I mix in warm vaseline as a mink lure. I think it works well.
or I use a big chunk (about half), smashed and down a hole as a secondary canine change up lure.

The best way to preserve mink glands is to salt them. Place a layer of glands then salt more glands then salt and so on. You can keep them this way untill your ready to use them. However they must be ground before you use them. You can freeze them but once you use them they will age if not preserved.

I find the aging process, once in a lure, to make it even better- the musk just gets stronger

My experience shows when I use full strength mink musk at a set It will turn some mink away. And how do I know this? It's because when I cut back on the use of full strength mink musk my mink numbers rose dramatically. A little bit goes a long ways. And In my opinion It should only be used as a late season attractant. Muskrat musk with a good chunk of rat meat will catch you some mink. If no beaver are preasent then my go to lure would be beaver castor. But get ready to skin some coon along with the mink.

Thanks BEAV. Thats exactly what happened this past winter.before the snows came. we were setting along a brook in beaver baited cubbies. We used 120,s .Until the snow arrived many of the traps were always sprung and the bait gone. Finally saw that it was coons. we still could not set for them because our fisher season was not yet open. Fisher have been quite common in this area Another lesson learned.

wow- could not disagree more beav-
I've never ever seen where mink musk deters mink-
in fact, if a set could be said to be a sure think for a quick recatch, it's one where a big male didn't go down right away, and the area is saturated with musk.
my biggest catches were starting opening of season, using almost all bait/musk.
in additon, a big chunk of a mink carcass, is a dandy bait.
