Recently got some ideas from some cat trappers about mods for a Victor #3 off set dls. The first three pictures are before I added a modified Pit Pan. I also cut the dog frame and welded it so it would set below level of the trap frame and moved it closer to utilize the Pit pan dog. The Pit Pans I used for this used to have the long arms which crimped on the spring pins and I just had them laying around so instead of purchasing more I just modified them. Also the pan nut and bolt is stainless steel. Some pictures captioned at the bottom of each picture. This is the completed set up. The pan actually set below the frame of the trap which helps with solid pad catches.

Yep..I have always womdered about the "Pit Pan" It looks like to me that the pan simply slips off the dog..OK..There is no notching on the dog or pan is this correct?..is there any modification done at the intersection?..thanks ..Carl

Nice audio-able click can be heard and she is ready.

only pit (or pit type) pans I have used, are the SC 1.5s- don't like them a bit. Don't like the trap much for a couple of reasons, but the pan is right up there.
Is the SC PIT different than the after market ones?

In the 6th pic, note the position of the pan bolt and where the dog meets the pan. Now look on your SCs.
My experience with SCs are with threes, and glad they were someone elses.

Fulcrum, leverage, angle.
Geometrics or physics or whatever the name in trap mechanics lol.
The SCs I worked on had the dog notch right above the pan bolt. Making pan tension way inconsistant from front to back of pan.
In Wileys pic you can see the notch is forward from the boltS.
In my opinion making the SCs and PITS triggers two different animals.
Now someone will post there SCs have caught 500 yotes, I'm glad for them.

ok, makes sense.
now that I think about it, the duke #5s have PIT pans- been 3 years since I used them but remembering now that on those traps I liked the set up.
so bottom line- there are PIT pans, and there are bumps on triggers.
thanks for the clarification

The pic below shows a standard PIT system for a DLS. I believe all Chuck did is cut off the two stock pivot holes, shorten the arms and drill two new pivot holes. Look at his one side close up in Wiley's pics and it seems stock ends were cut off and shortened. He also ran the pivot bolt thru the stock detent in the cross frame causing him to shorten the cross to make the dog fit The dog in Wiley's pics has the PIT bump so it seems to be stock
