I use the H stands that MTP sells: 20" MB-SH 330 Super Stands. Some H type stands down allow for trigger on the bottom setting but these do. They are also more stable than other "H" type stands that I/ve tried. These may not be ideal for rocky areas, however. I have mainly mud around here, though.
I also have more of the longer MB stands that have the long upwrights that attach together at the top for deep runs but rarely use them in the spring when primarily setting banks.

I use this model for 110....330. Easy to made.

It should be noted that I don't run Belisles or zero clearance traps. I/m not sure how those traps fit in the H stands. I think I remember having issues with them when I did try the belisles.

Right away you are probably going to need to use rebar. At least I do when the banks are frozen.
After that it depends on the situation.
Make sure on a castor type set in shallower water that the beaver can get off the stabilizer right away or I can guarantee you that you will have issues with rubbing.

steven- why are you setting stabilizers on frozen banks? all 330s have to be water sets, and i've never set a stabilizer on frozen banks to accomplish that.
only problem i've had with wire H stands, is rock bototms.

I bought some of RK"s tops and made my own. The narrower one for 330's actually works on the 660's also.

Steve, If the water comes up you are left with deep frost undr the water, that would be my guess as to what 49er is refering to, as I have just been through this this week. Pulled all today as its freezing back up again, caught 10 in a week out of 1/2 dozen sets. Going to warm up in a few days and will be back at again.

5/16"th rod won't work with Belisle traps. Belisle traps work with ¼" rod. The gap between the spring eyes when a Belisle is set is a little smaller than a quarter inch. In fact, with the Belisle.... If you use two straight rods, put them into the ground, put a Belisle in between those rods and set the trap... It will stay on the rods only by pressure....LOL

Frozen banks during spring beaver trapping is the biggest pain in the but. River is low in the winter, comes up many ft. when it opens, almost everywhere you set the first week or two is frozen bank whether it be 330's or footholds. Often I'm setting 330's out when the ice in the river hasn't even busted up, just several feet of water flowing over. An "H" stand is hardly even a thought for me in the spring due to not setting runs/crossovers usually and the frozen ground issue. I'm in the same boat though, just trying to graduate from limiting my 330 locations in the spring to the spots wehre I can manage an overhead stick through both springs to anywhere I want. I'm looking at going with RR plates or brake rotors with some sort of short stabilizer spike just to keep em' slightly in place and have a conibracket of sorts for the trap. Just got done cutting up a few dozen more chain drowner locks, hopefully next week will be 330 stabilizer fabrication week. If I come up with anything in particular I'll share! Happy trapping. ScottW

not a scenario on the rivers here- they go up, and down so fast, that it's either full flood stage, or normal.

For the scenario that jeff points out.
Full flood stage here for a week to ten days maybe more.
Wait to long and the beaver are going to be bit in the spring.
I dont wait for the water to go down and I wouldnt.
Only thing I wait for is the ditches to open up or otherwise you might have traps ten feet under for two weeks.
Lakes and ponds it doesnt really matter much.

gotcha- here, on the smaller rivers- it floods quick, and then is gone- they don't have that extended period of flooding

For frozen ground or rocky bottom I use the KB stabilizer. Works for me.

The KB's are kind of H shaped but they lay flat on the ground instead of upright. In the center there is a kind of spring like thing with the two ends of the spring sticking up that the jaws of the body gripper go on to attach the trap to the stabilizer. It is kind of hard to describe. You might be able to see one if you go to one of the trap supply dealers web site or their catalogs.

KB could have a place but the problem I see with them is the bottom jaw is going to have to be at or near the river/creek bottom.
I very my conibear height so much from location to location that I need it to be variable.

They won't work with the trigger at the bottom.Which reduces pelt damage which I'm looking for in the spring.Have used them and they work fine especially in hard bottoms. But the trap does sit a little low to suit me at certain sets.
