PELT BOARD BELLY WEDGES Bull rushes (cat tails) make an excellent belly board for mink, muskrats, ermine and squirrels. Just cut them, cut the head off, and peel the leaves. Dry them and you have a really smooth and naturally tapered wedge. Personally I only use a belly board for mink. Muskrat, ermine and squirrel slip right off my western red cedar boards. For Marten I prefer a wedge that is higher than the ones made from rushes. Best cut in the fall as the spring cut ones are "punky"
