Not Quail but Woodcock and grouse . I just won the Leslie Anderson derby Classic For those of you out side the coverdog circles this is a big deal.You train your own dogs GA?.

Yes I have owned 2 GSPs in my lifetime(19 years). Both were hunting champions. The GSP I have now is 4 years old. She is a Jr. Hunting Champion. I love GSPs, My favorite breed.

Yup, been hunting quail all my life. And I own 1 1/2 GSP's, the 1/2 GSP being 1/2 Lab.

CA is a very good place to live if you hunt quail, with 3 species and millions of acres of public lands that hold birds. Lot's of upland and waterfowl opportunities here too.

Plan yourself an upland bird safari to do NM, AZ, CA, OR & NV. A guy could do a big loop and take scaled quail, Mearns quail, Gambel's quail, California quail, Mountain quail, chukar, blue grouse, ruffed grouse, Hungarians and some good waterfowling. All on public lands.

Yeah FWS I lived in NV, Cali, and Az. I miss all the upland game from up there. You got any pics from some hunts?

Here's Gus on his very first quail hunt in October 1995, at 6 months old.



And he's still hunting, this is his his 14th season, he's good for about 2 hours of hunting then it's back in the truck. Used to go all day nonstop and didn't start to slow down till he was about 11.

His son, Buddy, is a waterfowl specialist but does upland birds pretty well.



He was a surprise puppy, momma dog wasn't supposed to be able to have pups, Gus proved that wrong. Litter of one, Buddy, there may have been more but I figured he ate them in utero given his appetite.
