Mike, i can tell you a bit about them though i don't own one. While on one of my trips to the UK i stayed w/ a man named Brian Nuttall who is known the world over for his Patterdales . I got to see over 25-30 in his kennel plus a few work in the field . about the same size as a Jack Russell , black in color . Rough and tumble while working and really get the job done . I thought about getting one for sometime right from Brian but decided against it because I knew I'd be digging the dog out of every hole it came to , and we have tons of holes here . Great dogs and i admire what they do , In the UK they are THE working earthdog . hopes this helps a little .

They are not dog aggressive at least the ones I raised. They are good with people. The good ones are like nite and day.One minute they want there belly rubbed the next they are trying to Kill any critter with hair and a heartbeat. They shed alot I know some guys have them for house pets.I'm not much for house dogs though. But like alot of dog breeds beware they alot of worthless culls for sale. And alot of guys looking for a quick buck.

Good post Braveheart , think i've seen a few of your posts on the TC site. love them little dogs but just didn't fit the bill for what i wanted and the Airedales like i once had were much too dog aggresive and I've ended up w/ a Kemmer cur which i'm growing to like pretty well .

I had 12 patts. at one time. They are great dogs will always own one.But if breed true to the breed they are to seek and kill it's quarry. They were dropped in rock holes in the Highlands in England and had to kill the fox no digging to the dog only by backhoe or pickaxe. They take alot of punishment some time and you will learn how doctor a dog or have large vet. bills.

I had 2 and looking for another one. One of the best dogs I ever owned in my life. Took her to work 3 days a week in offices that let me bring my dog. Yes they do shed but not like my lab.
They came from Nuttail stock out of Long Island. There are a few guys that rat with them in the dumps and warehouses. Bold as all hell. They will lick you face until there is no skin left. Put them on a coon, ground hog, stray cat and it's lights out there another dog when hunting.
When I was married they would blow through her pocket book to get a piece of gum. Very good around people. I had a run that had sand for there digging. They want to be with you 24/7, if I took a shower and left the bathroom door open that dog would jump right in and fight the spraying water.
There somewhat cat like and like to nap solo in the sun.
David Plummer wrote a book on him, he also bred the Plummer terrier.
I miss those dogs to no end, my last one had to be put down due to cancer.

Brian Nuttall hasn't passed away , i talked to him on the phone just last week . He had me send him a pint of fox urine . Brian is an awesome man , he is a encyclopidia on hounds , terriers , and game fowl . When we get on the phone ------- its always a two hour visit . He'll be really surprised to hear ------------ he's dead! LOL

Marky Mark , according to Brian Nuttall and John Cooper , Frank Buck has been dead for over 40 years . Those two get a big kick out of whats written about terriers here in the states , talked to both of them this morning. Brian tells me he's died somewhere around 16 times now!LOL

I'll second the positive responses' on the Patterdale's.... you havent had a dog till you've had one of these. I have one that runs loose here at my place. He's quite a gentleman around people, and nasty as hell on game. I've seen this one bring dead rats, mice, moles, rabbits, snakes, and grinners back into the yard to sharpen his teeth on. I've also seen him go after 1 coon and 1 coyote. Love those Patterdales.
