Lets here and discuss about your options in which the state you work in,what do they alow and time frame for bat work,removal/exclusion.
Buzzard,You know were I am going with this one,so start away.
In My state of Maryland ,they believe that a bat comes first ,way before humans and could care less about the health and environmental impact on humans, that bats cause.I am limited to only doing any exclusion /removal work .I cannot do ANYTHING from March 1-sept.1.
My beleif is that if a humans health and saftey is at "risk" from bats,There guano etc. They should not be spared,Dont like to kill htem off,but heck, sometimes some will have to go,to protect a Human.
So again How is it in your area, and what do you do with stupid laws ??

james in ontario canada we have very little regs concerning adc work no licenceing at all the only regs we have are concerning relocation of wildlife.and no regs concerning bats all our mnr tells people is to get a wildlife control company to remove them and there is no laws against killing them but that could change with west nile vires around being as the bats kill misquitos.

Man, I gotta get me a white horse to come riding into posts like this one. Hi-yo, on-topic discussion, AWAY...
I, for one, am glad to see some states offering protection to bats. Regardless of their image as (potentially rabid) flying rats, bats are very K-selected for small mammals. Most species have one pup/year, mature somewhere around 5-7 years, and live to 20+. It would be fairly easy to "overharvest" bats, given their natural history.
Now, before I get shot right off my newfound equine friend, let me say that I don't know jack about ADC work, and not much more about bats south of 60N. I'm sure there are some species that have become nocturnal pigeons in bigger cities (Myotis lucifugus??), and I don't see any problems with the removal of things that wouldn't be there unless humans had provided a nice attic to begin with. What I would like to see protected is the colony of [pick a rare bat] that shows up in an attic once every decade or so, but is killed off all the same.
Am I way off base here? Somebody enlighten me!

Nope , you aint off base .....the predominate bat specie that infects homes and buildings are both of the brown bat species...........any fool could differenciate a specie as they are that different..... you are correct in you standings.......
