Just for some thoughts for the callers using open reed calls. Do you place your lips or your teeth against the reed on the tone barrel when blowing the call? Give this a try, but most open reed calls will blow much easier if you use your teeth against the reed rather than your upper lips.
Yes, your lips are also on the reed, but use your teeth to put pressure on the reed. when blowing the call.

I use both ways depending on the tones and depending on the model of call I am using. Example, I get better tones and sounds using my teeth with a DT Red Desert mouth piece, whereas I use only lip when using a Tally Ho.

I use both as well. As Steve said it depends on the call and the desired tone or pitch you want from your call.
