Ive always felt the most comfortable and alert calling in a sitting position with my back against a weedy fence or stump etc... The bi-pod on my gun is a little short fully extended for a comfortable shot without a lot of jackin around when things go down. Is there a bi-pod on the market that is ideal for multi-posion hunting that any of you would recommend that extends high enough, or a shooting stick/support that you would recommend that has worked best for you.

I have attached bipods and still carry shooting sticks to most calling stands. If you are going to make consistant shots with shooting sticks, you need your back against a solid object. You cannot swing on a close range running coyote from a permanently attached extended bipod as opposed to a shooting stick and your attached pods are seldom level. The swaying ones tend to sway to easily. I prefer to pack both.

When I use a stick, I prefer a mono pod. For long shots, they work quite well and you can swing any direction very easily. For really long shots, I simply allow the side of the stick to rest against my leg, knee etc., for a really steady hold. I took off the bi-pods 20 years ago and have never regretted it. Steve

I was looking at the mono pods and see they have 3 piece ones that adjust to 62" or 32". Which would be the prefered length. Just curious as to stability at the 62" height.

Over the last year i have had several coyotes with in range but when i used my harris pod it was to low to the ground and was cutting off the tops of brush and grass with the bullets. Recently i started useing an old shooter stick by Vern Dorn i think his name was and since i am practicing on groundhogs i like the set up, now to get used to always finding a backing before calling or shooting:).

Provided that you don't flinch on shot release a steady forestcok is an absolute must to take a shot. This can be achieved with a bipod providing you have a clear field of fire, that is to say no brush or grass in front of you.
A single stick is fine provided that it can be held steady.
Lately I have been using for long range muzzle loader shooting with my Gibbs the old cradle in the feet crossed method half lying down. This is a very old long range shooting method and I find my scores have improved about 3 points in a match. Not bad.

I use my pack, it's an old Gregory internal frame full size pack. The internal frame stays form a kind of set of shooting sticks the rifle just cradles into perfectly.
And it's tall enough that from a sitting position it's just the right height.

I like to sit with my back against something while calling. A fence post, tree, rock or whatever. I sit with my left knee up, so that when coyote shows up I can use inner portion of my left leg for a rest. Being a right handed shooter, my left elbow rests firmly on that leg and I adjust for elevation by sliding my elbow up or down my leg. I almost never carry shooting sticks. I have tried them, but find little use for them in the terrain I hunt.

Forget the attached bipod, get some shooting sticks. The stoney point ones are good if you enjoy spending $$ or use a couple aluminum arrow shafts to make your own.

Don't do it myself, eyes are gone, but I watch the guys at Friendship using both Muzzleloader and BP Cartrage with sticks and they are busting 500 targets.

One thing that will improve home made shooting sticks is this. tape across top of sticks where you cradle the gun, a 1" wide peice of bicycle inner tub. It should duct tape to sticks, should just put a slight amount of tension on forearm of gun. You can now with practice, lift sticks and gun, sling over and drop sticks back down with gun falling out of cradle, or pick gun up quick w/ sticks staying attached to gun. Gun will still cant on sticks for uneven ground. Maybe a large dia piece of surgical tube could be slid over top of sticks too and do the same thing w/o have to tape on.

I went to Walmart and got replacement dome tent stick looking things. I cut the cord that held it together and made two sets of shooting sticks. I used the cord inside the stick to wrap and tie three inches from one end and bam there it is. Two shooting sticks $2. I take them with me every time. I use them on plus 200 yard shots on flat ground.

I use 2, 1/2 inch hard wood dowels tied together with sone wet leather and groved a little bit at the tie point, and wittled to a dull point on the ground end.

I got some of the fence rods, put a heavy duty rubberband on them about 4" from the Top,shrink tubed the 4"upper part, then hockey taped the rubberband to keep the sun off it.....friggin sweet. I will be kabooming this weekend,I'll let ya know how it turns out.
PS,my kids elected to sell the 17 HMR and get a CZ 223 for the truck......so much for 17 research.
Now if FREAK could get on with the info on the Turkey Tactiacal,my truck will be well armed.
