I have never used decoy dogs and am just now getting interested in calling.
I do own Kemmer and OMCBA mountain curs and I love them. I have owned or hunted with a bunch of diffrent dogs and these curs are smart. They will tree squirrel, Cats and coon.
Are they as good on coon as a great hound?
No, but they can do 50 other things that my hounds can't or won't do.
Absolutely great dog and so smart they are spooky.
I owned Airedales as a kid and they are smart aswell and gritty.
The Airedales that I owned were wound tighter than the curs.
My Kemmer female is gritty enough to handle anything, but I can speak a word and call her off.
Kemmers bond heavily with their owners and you would swear they know what you are thinking.
I may have my female with me at the NTA, if anyone wants to take a look.

I couldn't agree more.
I'm always a bit cautious about "generalizations" of dog breeds since every breed has it's winners and losers. I just found more winners with Kemmer curs but I have seen a few that needed a lead deposit too.

I know a bunch of ADC guys working for the outfit right now. The majority I know are using Kemmers. Not just any Kemmers, but Striker bred Kemmers. There is a man in NV that is a legend around these parts. He has bred a strain that is heads and shoulders above all others I have seen. There are a few guys that breed this bloodline and I am thankful they do. Any breed can make a decoy dog. It doesn't have to do with size, shape or color. What it takes is a certain kind of dog. A dog that is trainable, and wants to please it's master, throw in a little prey drive and you have it. The guys that I know that make their living at the end of a gun, well they choose Kemmer Mountain Curs. Take care. Mason Workman

I agree with rockcreekcurs. I work for Wildlife Services in Colorado and I prefer a Mountain Cur. Some WS guys here use German Jadg Terriers and Airedales, but most use Curs.
I also agree completely with Cal and Wiley about the time of year Decoy Dogs work best.

Hey Larry, good to see you posting here. When you gain enough experience you will no longer rely on the Wt and the cur. ;D

Hi guys, Thanks for the welcome.
lb, I will stop in at Huntmasters soon. I got a new computer and had lost the site address, but found it again after you mentioned it.
Rich, Rich, Rich, lmao. I've got to get me one of those ballons and maybe a pup out of that fine specimen next to you. ;D
Thanks again for the welcome.

Larry, how do you like my camo? Think it's too dark? That decoy dog is Phoebe and she has been spayed. However I promise you pick of her next litter. ;D

Rich, Your camo looks great. You won't have to worry about your hunting buddy not knowing where you are and accidently shooting you. I'm a little concerned about what that is behind you. It looks like an Ewok wearing LeafyWear Camo and I'm afraid he is trying to steal your dog. ;D
