I used Leupold 3.5-10's for years on my varmint rifles and you know what, they were almost never at over 6x for actual hunting/killing.
Last year I slapped a 6x Leupold Compact on my .17 Remington and have decided it's just right.
I also carry and use binoculars constantly in the field, Leica Ultravid 8x42's, but my hunting for bobcats is a spot and stalk kinda thing. Which is effective in the habitats I hunt.
What do you guys use for optics.

I have found 7.5X and 8X to be my favorite optics for most conditions.
This depends more on the habitat you call than anything. If your coyotes are close range, you want 4x to 6x. If your coyotes are mid range like mine, 8X from a 3.5 to 10 variable works well. If your coyotes are longer range, you may want more optics.
I use a Leupold scope in 3.5x - 10x I THINK. Can't even remember for sure but I think that's right.

I'm using a Nikon Monarch UCC in 5.5-16.5x44A/O.It's a little more than what I need around here, except for the open fields we have when you get into the flat farm country.I was looking for something in the 4-12 range but couldnt pass up the deal,$300 on clearance at a local sporting goods.I havent had a problem with it and shot most of my yotes using just the 5.5 power but I did use it on 10x a few times.I havent had any difficulty finding coyotes in the scope, even at 12yds,but I think that problem varies from individual depending on there familiarity with there rifle and shooting technique or instinct.

This one will get you guys going!
I use 2.5 x 7 and 3x9's on every gun I got.
I call such varied habitat and so many different critters, that the higher powers are just not needed here. Each year, I find I rarely move the power off of 2.5,3, or 4 power for most all my calling. I just dont need it here. Steve

I bought a new Weaver 3x-9x-40mm "Tactical" scope today. Now I need to decide which rifle to put it on. Choices, choices.

I hardly ever see a coyote in the daylight to shoot at... There's lots more activity after dark around here.
I use night vision. 4 power AN-PVS 4, MK 6650, Gen 2 at a minimum by me.
During daylight, it'd be a 4x16 Nightforce tactical with illuminated reticle.
