The kids and I are thinking about buying a couple of bred female mink to start a small mink farm. I believe we have more than enough outbuildings to get started and we live on about 40 acres.
Does anyone know where we could buy a couple of good quality bred female mink? Are there any internet sources or places to get more info?
Any info would be gladly appreciated. Thanks

SD should have some ranches. I do not own a mink ranch but worked on one for several years and have gained some knowledge. If you google fur farming on Google Search you may get the American Ranch Mink Assn or some comparable. You may find a ranch near by to contact. You may want to do that ASAP. You will need cages, waterers, nesting boxes etc. Quite a bit to raising mink. Also the breeding season for mink does not start until March about the middle of the first week of March and goes through about 2-3 weeks max. Most kits are born about late April until mid May at the latest. You may want to contact a rancher to see if they would sell you a breeding unit. That would be a male and say 3-4 females. If they don't know you may put in your word for next year and they could save you some breeding stock that they do not pelt in late November or early December. Hope this is helpful. Bryce
