Nice cats Joel. How far are these cats hanging up from where your set locations are? It looks like the rats involve some climbing and work. Is this place your front or back yard Joel. LOL

Rio this is the third time in the past week and a half. lol!!
Foxman, it is all rocks, I had to cut a stout willow and jam it in the 2-3 inches that it would go in then bend the willow top over the bank and pile rocks on top, wired the trap to the willow in case they pulled it out. No chance of that those rats are so little I almost didn't skin them. They'r living on that little bit of grass on the banks.
Mercer I sent you a PM.
Bryce the first one got about 30 yards, the other two are right next to the trail, both blind sets with uncovered sets. I didn't hike down in there for the rats. I'm catching cats in the high sage bottoms next to the creek. Just saw a rat the other day and set some traps to see what they looked like.
This creek goes underground where it hits the desert and doesn't connect to anything else, I wonder how and when the rats got there?
John we got snow down to about 6000 feet, the mouths of the canyons just wet rain. Setting traps in a whiteout? Your dedicated.
By the way congrats on your covershot for the AM trapper!!

so the rats couldn`t burrow at all, no holes? I`m surprised nothing has ate them all if they are just crouching in grass patches for a house. surely must be a hole or pile of vegetation for a house somewhere. I trapped some ks rats once for the same reason, and wyoming rats- just to see what they looked like. man what sorry pitiful paper mice in both places. no fat, no size and rattled like sheet paper.

Yeah thats what these are paper mice. They get a hole in under and around the rocks. It isn't bedrock, just big boulders.

Hey Joel, I've got some #3 and #4 monty's that are stock. I see that you're using one in the first pic. My question is do you think stock will work well for cats? Or do I need to replace them with bridger levers? Thanks, LT

LT I replace mine with Bridger levers, I love the Monties.
The #2's you have to grind the outside of the jaw some to get the BL to come up.

Is that a #2 lever for the three and a #3 lever for a four or is it just #3 levers for both? How are you getting the levers on? Thanks for the help, LT

I use a 2 bridger on a 2 monty and a 3 bridger on a 4 monty.
I just use bolt cutters to cut the base so I don't have to pry the jaws out.
Then I put the levers on and weld a baseplate on and weld up the place I cut the base at the same time.
The 3 bridger levers work just right for the 4 monty, the 2 monty needs the outside of the jaws ground down some in order for the 2 bridger levers to work.
Then you've got a heck of a neat trap, the 2 monty and the 2 bridger are just about identical except one is dogless.

Joel,
That first one with the great spots looks well fed. How is the jack rabbit pop. up north? Down here its in a down cycle, thank God. Two years ago it was ridiculous. They got into everything.
I was snooping around on my line (that I haven't set up yet) last weekend and found traps everywhere and a nice tom in one of them. I debated whether to plug him with a 22 and leave a note. But just left things as they were.
Congrats on those nice big cats. And skinny little rats.

We've gota fair amount of rabbits, Chukars are gone though.
Cats are fatter than pigs.

Stacy,
It does bug me to wait. But the Jan. cats are mucho better than Nov. ones. Twice as good.
Also it seems the kitties are on the prowl. Particularly the big boys. I have one place, a toilet, that is awesome. 100 poops. But I can't catch a darn thing there until Jan.
Was down in AZ last week. That sure is a pretty desert. Makes NV look like the moon. Fell asleep dreaming about lugging cages around.
