We sold some fresh - too cheap.
Ground a bunch for lure and avg. 20.80/lb or $1.30/oz. up there.
$1.50/oz. - Clean
$1.25/oz. - Ordinary
$0.90/oz - Shells

Finished some nice Dec. coon for a local trapper last week. He sold them to the local traveling fur thief for a $10 ave. Man he gave them away. Most of my coon went northern grade on the feb. sale and ave. 19.40

MM shop around.
Call every lure maker you know.
The auction houses hit you pretty hard on "shrinkage".
You can figure you will lose about 20 percent from the time you ship it.
Last spring I sold all mine for 20 a pound semi dry without the shrinkage.
This year I am going for twenty five and if no one wants to pay it can sit in the freezer.
You making any of those beaver stencil's? I'd like one in the FHA pattern.

Tman didn't mean to stir you up ;D.More than likely my country buyer is unaware as to what is going on.He is paying 15 dollars for reds in the 5 for rats in the round not sure about coon but with a meat market I would say 7 or 8 bucks head count.Prices do seem to be falling I hear all this talk about how hot the greys are and sure they are now but what happens in May?I am going to the VA sale in March and I already have a strong idea as to what I will take and no its not NAFA average or FHA average I just don't see them staying there I may be wrong just liek now 40 t0 50 bucks on finished otter is probably the best I can do

Hourly it's probably not worth my time to trap beaver, however, I am a glutton for punishment I guess, because I just love trapping beaver.
I love hauling them, skinning them, fleshing them, and stretching them. I love the smell, and I love the finished product. I love seeing that growing pile of hides stacked on the top of my freezer.
I truly wish I lived in a place where there was even more beaver then I have here.

49er,
The shop is done, but no electricity until spring when the ground thaws and we get rid of the 10 ft snowbanks - It's going to be a wild weekend, there talking another 24 to 30 inches and 50 mph winds here the next 2 days.

Let me know when you get up.
But I want the FHA style.
I am working on getting one made by a buddy of mine with a cnc. I might even use a design of my own.
Who knows.
I dont like the NAFA one.
I'm gonna kill the weather man.
He has already backed off on the prediction for here. Should have went fishin.

you guys are bumming me out with the prices I didn't catch alot but enough that I should have sold all the rats and mink beaver too . it adds up to enough that I may hold out on some and hope for the best next year. who knows I may lose even more there goes the gas money well no thats been made up for selling most of the rats some at 9.50 . I will have to think about this now .Im glad that I didn't hold on to all the rats . my bust I guess I should have known this would happen should have been putting it up faster than I did lazy me.

if you will go back to ancient posts you will see I advised sell all rats on carcase as fast as you caught then last fall. I`m not wrong very often, on fur or weather either one.

wait a minute while I ck. what that lieing sob weatheman says, so I can tell you the opposite, with uncanny 90% accuracy. we call the local guy here the "weasel" as he not only looks like one but acts and predicts like one. we litterally laugh at the stupid sob. we are especially impressed the way tv weathermen stand in front of the map so you can`t see for yourself ,while they bladder on. while I`m at it, why the heck are all the towel dispencers in restrooms at head height so all the water runs down your arms while you are grabbing towels. and yes, I am taller than the average american height.

i predict that people will catch grey fox,coon,possum,skunk,badger,otter,yotes,reds,rats,beaver,otter,etc... its what we do no matter the price! like it or lump it. im addicted so will trap at any price as long as able. i think this is a true trappers mindset!
