Everything I see here lately is prices getting lower and lower I wish I could sell early but can't because of deer hunters everywhere I don't even start till mid January.I am going to the VA sale on March 16th and I may sell there myself instead of ship no drumming and no 9% comission .Tman those prices suck other than coyotes I can average right at or better than those prices for sorry North Carolina fur those were green price right?

Steve, Have you ever thought about putting those mink on Taxidermy.net or don't want the hassle?

I think these prices reflect what is happening. Its also all late (downgraded fur)
I sold 99% of my mink at 24- a couple at $15 doesn't bother me.
$5.75 nose count rats, $18 high green coon- if you can get better on NC fur- I'll ship mine down to you.
the market NOW isn't the same as the market Jan 1-
Good luck on the beaver- talked to Robert W yesterday, he says beaver market not looking good at all.

Ive always wondered where the country buyers sells to when hes paying more than I can get at an autionhouse. Those guys in se pa that rack up the red fox would have some clout selling direct, you would think. Im sure a large lot of fur opens up a pandoras box of problems, too. Why wouldnt his buyer just go to the auction and get a better price? Funny how when prices increase it is miniscule but when it drops it is gangbusters, almost the opposite of gas prices.

private treaty-
for example- he sends no rats, and very few coon to auction-its all private treaty.
not like it was in the day- he said he'd have many buyers wire him the cash- we need X amount of coon, heres what we'll pay- buy them!

this old boy has been sucked in before on the "everyone go trap beaver this year , they` re hi !!!" stories that the trade has used ever since I was a kid, to entice large catches at losses to the producers, so the auction companies, manufacturers and retailers can profit bigtime. I don`t play the beaver game anymore. caught plenty, nothing to prove and know better than to do back breaking monotonous work for poverty wages. the trade will let them shine briefly once in awhile, to slow drip a little juice into the i.v. if it gets clogged up. I just yanked the needle years ago ,so they couldn`t play me like that anymore.

usually- its not the top end that drops too much- its the average because of the grade.
mink exception- ranch mink took such a beating this year, that wild mink went right down with them.

That's why when someone asks me how many beaver i got, i just tell them as many as i wanted. And that's usually around 30. Just enough to be fun. greg

mink, rats etc the labor catching, hauling skinning etc is so much lower than a beaver that they are at least still fun and can show a profit, even if minimal, even at depressed markets. beaver tho, nothing but work work work. whether clean skinned or scraped, still lots of labor for dang near no return hourly. I still catch afew every year to eat, but that`s about it. then just as soon give them away as sell them ,to keep my soul clean.

Compared to last year the beaver market is shot.
This year a little better than years past, sor far. We will see what happens in May.
If the stock market doesnt straighten out by then I'll be crying in milk with nobody to blame but myself. I coudl have sold for I would venture 27. We wont see that now.
Beaver here need some low years or there wouldnt be enough left to make it profitable.

steven, and you are in some of the highest price beaver around, in quantity too. you can imagine what the rest of the trapping world thinks of them at 3/4 to 1/10th what you get for yours. I looked at gatrappers " todays beaver" and had to shake my head at the fur, what fur? it looks like fuzz. $2 beavers I imagine, hatters at best.

bob, we have a good beaver here, last year avg. near $30 at auction house by a few friends, mine near $27 in the country. I didnt even trap enough this year to fill a wheel barrow, and am real glad my hunch paid off, otter sank the beaver followed. This area was getting flat out pounded for years and needed a break. If it gets any worse then now, ole shag might not set a 330 next year, Im watching that otter market, could rack up 100 right quick with a little leg work.

Yeah bob we have as good a beaver as anybody in the world in certain parts of mn.
The kicker here and points north is weather. For me to get even close to fired up about underice beaver trapping I need to do at least 25 on the hide and I will get about 3 bucks for carcass and castors. For me to maintain once it starts to get tougher its going to need to be 30 plus.
still lots of labor for dang near no return hourly
No truer words were spoken lol.
If I had any brains I could catch more if I would just skin less.
Too stubborn.
