They need to exterminate the deer in MN like they did in PA!

we got deeer- thats for sure.
Had a record harvest or near record this year- but its still 1/2 of what WI did.
Reason is- MN stretches gun season out forever- does, bucks, muzzleloading, bow season runs 4 months-
trouble is, you never have more than 3 people hunting at a time- such wild area in many places- that no hunters means no deer.

That is a problem here in PA ... especially with hay sets. I have deer getting into mine all the time. Very frustrating. Lehigh County still has plenty of 'em.

Strange thing is the hay sets I made, the deer never went to eating the hay. An odd deer has stepped on a trap and popped it off before, but the hay was all still there and not scattered. We have a deer overpopulation problem where I am , but perhaps open ground( not much snow here each winter) and plenty of other things for them to eat is why they haven't eaten my hay. I have even seen lots of corn get spit out and not collected by combines on a farm with alot of deer, yet the corn will sit and sit. Saw a small flock of wild turkeys one day in the field, bet they were eating corn!
We do have ALOT of deer hunters here though, but many are the take a few for the freezer mentality, or the buck only and it has to be an 8 or bigger types. And a good many only hunt a few days all season and don't always get even 1. Not many who go all out for population control. I did know one guy who was getting a dozen a season though, and know some guys who do crop damage control. Likley not too easy to shoot deer here either, they get wary fast with all the hunting pressure. DNR upped the bag limits the last bunch of years, in archery season 1 can take unlimited antlerless with no tags to buy, 10 per hunter for muzzleloader and modern firearms ( 20 total combined), and 2 bucks per season type( combined total 6), but 2 antlerless must be taken before the 2nd buck and the 2nd buck requires a 2nd buck tag, plus archery and muzzleloader use one must buy stamps for as well.
My worst problem with hay sets is high winds.

How do the rookies make out with these hay sets. Seems if he used a stock trap, with one j-hook, the chain would be a fouled mess. I asked this when the Pa hay set was first reinvented and was promptly ignored.
I do not use the hay set, but show me a chaff pile where the combine turned around or unloaded and I am all over it. I tried a set with two buckets of rotted saw dust, on sign. A coyote worked it, missed the trap, and apparently lost interest.
From the pics on the net, the hay set works.
I liked our deer season better when most of the deer were harvested within three weeks, and know exactly what you mean by no one in the woods, the deer lay all day. I now have a longer time to have stuff messed with by hunters. But I get over it.
On one farm the stands are still up. I told farmer that when they get stolen, if I get accused, I'm going off on them. Even if I were a thief, my idea of sitting around in a tree, is not my way of hunting.
