Tons of traps to clean, tune, and re-dip. New traps to modify. Loads of lure bottles to clean up and put away. Boxes and gear to clean and put away. Stretchers to hang up. Equipment out the wazoo to find a home for in my shop.
My fur shed looks like a disaster area and I don't have the ambition to clean it up!!!

CD,
That's usually how I feel, but this year I am excited. I'm looking forward to remodeling my fur shed. Insulation, wood stove, the works. I have a refrigerator already for my lure and I'll be shopping for a used freezer. And believe it or not, my traps are cleaned off and seperated in 5 gallon buckets. Ready for dipping or lye. They usually lay in a tangled muddy mess until August. I don't know whats wrong with me this year. I even have a partial equipment list ready for the convention.

Same here, I have everything separated and cleaned, my shed is still in use so it is not cleaned up totally yet. I am surprised as well, my summer chores are almost done, and I still have fox in the freezer that need fleshing and put on stretchers ;D I think those that wait a little are going to see better prices on coons and reds at later sales.

DJ, I forgot to ask yesterday, did you sell anything yet? Will you be sending everything to Canada?

NL, everthing I caught up till December 15th went north. All I have on hand now is fur that I have taken since, I will check out a few more sales and if I don't see a big improvement, I will send those as well. I don't mind supporting the state organization or local dealers, but when you see prices reflecting a $10-15 deficit on each pelt, it just cranks me up, I know that these folks have to make a living, but I like to be rewarded as well. So, I will be going to a few more district sales I guess. Hey, you planning on going to the Bloomsburg Sportsmans show!!

I can't stand this time of year. no traps to check, no fur to put up. I am going to build a fur shen in the spring so I will have to wait till then to do the rest of the work since all my stuff is frozen in my partners truck. lots of work to do no time to do it yet. mike

I will say this- being a fulltime trapper has good points and bad points- and one of the good points is having at least a few traps out for a good portion of the year. Back when I pulled all traps Dec 31 and then worked until May- it was a terrible feeling. Checking traps on a regular basis all summer- then hard into fur- bing, bang- then nothing! Talk about jonesing... Stil have out a good water line and will run that another 4-5 weeks- then maybe beaver until spring- then I have to hit gophers hard. With the conventions now a part of my summer/fall- I have to hit gophers hard when I have the time- and hope for an early dry spring. Gophers are both $$$ and permissons. Regarding equipment after the season. I don't have time to do it all after each line ends- but I have learned to at least wash off the traps, dry them off and put them away. Same with sakes, etc. Then when I do get time to do it right- I don't have to waste a day just trying to get started.

Usually does me too. but now I have extended it by a few weeks . Just feels like waiting for opening day waiting for the date to arrive. All my traps are boiled and waxed . Ready and waiting.... By the way there is a need for trappers in 3 states that I know of , so if looking for a way to extend fur season , let me know . i will give you a # to call. Later , Jim

You Whiners I have a month and half of trapping to go (coyotes) but I am not able to particpate because of health conditions and that is a real bummer.

We have two weeks here left to trap. Beaver is in till march 15th although I have never trapped them before I am going to give that a try. The wind today was really blowing and temps were falling but I can't think of anything I would rather do than trap. I am now thinking towards the conventions and doing things earlier this year so I will be better prepared for the season this fall. I want to get more property to trap and I need to modify some new traps bought this year. Dirt to dry and wax. I guess when I stop and think about it there is still a lot of trapping stuff to be done. Steve G, I really enjoy this site, it seems to have a serious trapping attitude to it. I look forward to learning all I can with the discussions that lie ahead. Steve

Thanks steve- you summed up our goal- a little nonsense sometimes goes a long ways....
Our aim is to make this the best if not biggest trapping board out there. We have our work cut out for us "fer sure" as the bar has been set high....

With T-Mans lead, and the dedicated bunch that have signed on already, I believe we can do it. It's all about education ;D
