no snow, temps below 20 for next 10 days or so.... I couldn't resist and I waxed up a few traps and we set up a couple locations. Only 6 traps, but were in 2 locations I didn't hit as hard as I wanted to last fall. In fact, both locations were set up only a few days, both produced a coyote on last day. Both are usually top producers of both reds and yotes- so Im curious if nothing else. Used the coal/green shale mix with a top dressing of dry dirt. I just used the old sets.
I'll set up a couple more in a day or 2. Still running water, plus a beaver ADC job 30 miles up river, so don't want to get too extended.
Have to say...I like having coyote traps out. Saw a few tracks, hoped for more but we shall see.

Good time to catch some doubles, what with mating season and all.

Steve, it could be worse. I was checking a field for elk today and saw 2 yotes doing the same.
I sat there watching them watching me for about 10 mintues. Pulled out of the field and realized I had my camera with me. Went back into the field and they were gone.
Waled out to the road to check another field and didn't see anything....
Came back an hour later and there's yote tracks in my boot tracks.
Man I really wish I had time to have traps in the ground right now.

clear and cold...if I knew it would stay like this- I'd have 100 traps in the ground.
descion time tonight- will check water 2 more times, then check the line and pull 1/2- the least productive stops, then neck check pull rest.
Then- will run snares and a few trap for yotes for 3-4 weeks- then darn it- I'm done!
that will be 4 1/2 months of fur trapping. When I pull the last one, its like jonesing...I feel the NEED to check traps...
If I wanted, I could trap beaver through May- but can make more money on gophers.

Good Luck.
I still have a partial line out but the coyotes are starting to rub up here. Their not too bad yet, but seems earlier than other years. I'm still driving into the fields to run sets and that is definitely nice.
Also been out doing a bunch of calling at night. Still a bunch of coyotes around.

Know what you mean trappnman.
I am pulling the last of my line this weekend, and man, conditions are still great, almost no snow, could still snare coyotes and foxes, but I have to get ready for a caribou hunt up north along with a business trip.
And still putting up fur.
And then rats will be starting at the end of march
And I need to get ready for 2007
And my fur shed is a complete mess
