Getting ready to bag up some fur for NAFA and its still wet and muddy out so no outdoor pic but I wanted to share it. I work at a feed yard and most of the time work every single day so I trap as hard as work allows. This is part of this seasons catch and what I'm most proud of this is my first year of finishing my fur which is more work LOL. A lot of people have helped me with advice along the way but most of all I want to thank Jim AKA freak and Brian Roberts cause they are the two that really got me on the right foot. You two ought to be just as proud of this pic as I am. Thanks to all those that have helped me with finishing fur. Jeff

Excellent work. Nice multi species catches. Mine get bagged Sunday and I take them to the delivery point Monday afternoon. I will try a digital photo. I have never put a photo on line so it may happen.

LOL td don't act like you didn't help any when you were out pheasant hunting. I think the hardest part of finishing fur is selling it (letting go of it). When I was fleshing my first few coons I was thanking myself for not running a big coon line. Oh and Phil I finally finished that beaver LOL.

That is a nice pile of fur . It is tough to let it go. This is especially true at auctions because you just never know. With a peddler you give the fur but you receive the cash right away. If prices are good it doesn't hurt as much. If prices are low it hurts more! I'm shipping what I have left to Stef on Monday. It's FHA fo me this year.

It is hard to let it go- I keep my canines until mid Dec, partly because I just like them hanging in the shed. Sure is bare once they go. Rats and mink are nice- but fur in just aren't as nice to look at....

Nice job, I'm getting everything together tomorrow and will be shipping after lunch. Looks like your cats have improved since the first one.LOL I could see your coons, skunks, coyotes, cats, badgers, but where is that pile of grinners? I hear what you are saying about letting it go out the door, but I know I could use the room for the upcoming month.

Looks like you have some skunks in the mix - any tricks you can share for skinning those?
Nice batch of fur!

Nice job streching those cats guys. They look right. Some I have seen on here look more like railroad tracks. Suggestion: get some of those plastic coat hangers, cut them in half and cut the hanger part off. You now have two leg strechers. Skin the legs longer, put a hanger strecher in each leg and point them up towards the chin so they lay flat, showing off more white and spots. $$$$ your welcome. added note: dust a little bit of borax into the arm pit to help it dry where it folds over.

Thats a good tip bfflobo. I was using the 20 inches of no nine wire folded into a miny stretcher but will have to try that also. the graders at nafa will see a progression in my finishing for sure. Probably my highest dollar cat is the first one I ever finished and was scolded by bill1306 LOL by not doing it right. All of my cats after the day he was here look as good as they could I believe. I do need to work on getting the back legs stretched wider and closer together I think? Coldsteel I'll let someone with more knowledge answer that. My happy plumber stretcher was full with a female cat and got a big tom the next day he fit about perfect all the way to the end of happy's solid coon board so thats what i put him on and he turned out nice. I know i know i'm not supposed to do that LOL. Thats why i have more happy cat stretchers on the way. the small tom my wife caught went perfect on a solid fox board.

Minimum 7 1/2". Some times you might have to fudge a little and get down to 7". If you can't get to the next size in length and maintain the 7 1/2" then shorten them up a little and take the slack in width. Over 40", make the length comfortable then go wide. More $$$$.

Here is an example of some of the cats that I put up last night. These have the plastic clothes hangers in the front legs and are placed nose down and they have been back brushed from tail to nose to make the fur look heavier. When they dry the fur will not be as flat as they would be if they were dried with the nose up. I'm not saying this the only way to put up cats, but it is the way I do them.

The boards I used are also made by Happy Plumber. The board on the left is the XL board he makes and the other two are the standard cat boards. These three cats give a good range from a medium cat to the XL cats. Really great boards to use. Coyotewhisperer, you ask what thought on the first cat. LOL The two skunks are on red fox boards.
