I started out using 4 coiled bridger #2, for fur, I was bedding trap fairly deep maybe 3/4"to 1' cover, no problems, rarely a snapped trap or pull out, changed to 2 coil , bed traps same as always, way to many snapped traps and pullouts, I try to bed my traps w/ less cover "old habits die hard " but also with less cover, wind and small amounts of precipataion expose pan covers to often, I'm going to try taos lighting springs, do yall think this will solve my problem, if not anybody got some ideas? thanks

If your methods dictate you need 4 coiled traps to hold coyotes, then use them.
All my coyote traps are 2 coiled except for a doz or so Bridgers, and I see no difference in catch rates from the 4 coil over the 2 coil.

1" of dirt seems like a lot to cover with. I seldom go over 1/2".

Steve I hear that regular about the catch ratio , unfortunatly it seems to make a difference around here, not sure but maybe soil type plays apart in it around here on the miss. river delta, lots of gumbo, the regular 4 coil kits are to rough on feet, thats why i"m trying the taos lightening springs, I just received them , and had a question, I called J.C. he is out of pocket trapping, when you get taos springs they come w/ spring pins also, and locks, is it nessecary to change spring pins, and install locks , or can you just install taos springs?

I know excellent trappers on both side of this issue, so both work effectively. Do what you feel is best for you.

Yes, I concede conditions play a part.
But I also think that 1 inch of dirt is a lot. I'm putting 1/2 or less over pan.

I think i just learned why the spring pins are included, seems the stock spring pins aren't long enough for 4 coils, the reason i didn't notice this is all my traps were bought 4coiled and came w/ the long pins,

yeah tony change those spring pins!
the ones that come with the taos kit are dang near unbendable. way better than stock.
i four coil every dirt trap but fox traps and i put #2 music wire springs on them. don't want no cat getting out.
i have yet to understand why some put that much cover over your trap unless you are in windy conditions. imo that just puts his foot up higher for less of a grab when the trap goes off.
i am wrong please someone explain.
