Where do you place your D-ring in the middle or off set and why? And just to make this alittle more interesting short or long chain.

on center but I guess that would be preference. I do it because When an animal is in the trap and pulls, it keeps the trap from changing position on the animals foot while allowing the swivels to funcyion properly. mike

Mine are in the middle, mostly because I bought them that way, dont like them there, seen where coyotes can square up on the trap and get lucky and possibly use the levers for leverage fighting the circle, only seen it twice but thats enough for me.
if i could do it again i would of had the base plate ring offset as not to allow a good foot hold or leverage point for both back feet at once, didnt even think about it until i saw it and know the coyotes wernt thinking about it when it happens, they showed me the flaw, wasnt smart enough to figure it myself (lol)
been going with the factory length chain and a conners t bar the last couple of years, but the t bar and length of the chain dosnt really matter, when there at the end of the pattern and positioned right...jim

I am with you on that one . have been thinking about this alot. O'G used to have sterling make all his offset for the exact same reason. About half of mine are baseplated , most have the factory setup with cold shut offcenter. (bridgers , northwoods) Believe I like that more than any. Give a little more flexibility and a little less chance of a good solid pull. just my opinion. take it for what it is worth.
