Kind of got me going, had some cool wet weather and the trapping bug is starting to bite.
Mixed some beaver oil with some fish meal and my wife's dog and cat were both in the shop within 5 minutes.
Hadn't even known they were around when I started.
I think the humidity carried the odor.
Usually the cat doesn't come running, I usually catch her checking it out when she doesn't think I'm around.
Anyway I think I've got some good stuff going.

Sniff-sniff, hmm wondered what that south west wind was bringing here to northern Wi? LOL. Got some brews aging myself, open them up and like you said , your pets come a running to help you sniff!

joel, do you use any meats in your cat lures or just essences and other non-meat bases?

Yes indeed Joel! the wet weather is giving me the bug also. I also wanted to mix my cat glands but with the 100+ weather we have had all summer, mine is still seperated. It always makes me nervous when it seperates like this, but when the weather cools and I stir it it is perfecto!! I'll be mixin' my glands with my other ingredients around mid November.

The only meats I use in cat lures are fish meat. I used to ferment them and all that but anymore I just use fish meal and fish oil.
I'm going to try and get away from the lures this year as much as possible.
I think they are counterproductive in walkthrough sets, I got to thinking about it and I wouldn't put lure by a trail set snare so why would I with a trail set trap?
I do still bury some traps for cats, usually in the Southern desert where it's sandy washes and not much freezing or snow.
I can sift one into a sand wash quicker than dragging a bunch of fencing material over to the set sometimes, especially where there isn't much brush and it's short and not good for fences.
I'll bury some in the North desert as well if under a Juniper tree that is hard to construct a walkthrough.
Probably 60%+ of my sets will have no lure this season.

Flatlander and others, you guys should try using wine cocks to vent bait/lure vessels as opposed to dealing with all those hoses and venting into water cup.

A piece of 1/4 inch plastic tubing in the shape of a drain trap with a rubber stopper on the top end. You put water in the drain trap part so the flies and stuff can't get to your bait, but the gases push bubbles up through the water and escape.
It does the same thing as all your tubes and pipes and stuff do. Are you sure that's bait you're brewing there?

them are the ones, usually come with rubber stopper on bottom end and can be used in metal or plastic lid. Ive got a bunch on hand if anyones needing any.
i put mineral oil or glycerine in them instead of water so you dont have to worry about the water evaporating away
