I lost a few traps to run-ins with tractors this year, and I picked up a few new areas to trap. I feel the need for at least another dozen traps. I've really taken a liking to my Northwoods round jawed 1 3/4's. I rarely see them for sale, but I'll be keeping my eye out between now and next season. I've checked on like wissmiss for used traps, but there are none listed there. I searched T-man's trap shed and didn't see any pricing info on there.
What price should I look for as a fair market price on round-jaws, in good condition? I was thinking $6 on the low end and no higher than $8. Am I being realistic?
Thanks!

What is the history on the square vs round jaw design? Are there fewer of the round, or is it just that I'm in the majority in my preference for the round, and that's why you don't see them as often?
Thank You!

Harold, Did you ever compare them to the Bridger 1.65? Can you see much difference in jawspread and lever height?

Hi Todd,
I actually have a dozen Bridgers, they were the first traps I bought when I "unretired" a few years ago. I do like them, and actually bought them after reading how much they were built like the NW's. I think I can get them new for just over $8 a piece, and if I can't find some used NW's, I'll order another dozen new Bridger 1.65's. I did notice on mine that I just can't get that pan adjusted exactly to my liking, like I can with the NW's.
Thanks for the input!!

I have a collection of the 1.5 round jaw Northwoods. Really nice little trap. Have about 3 dozen. Just too bad I don't use many 1.5s anymore.

Coon Duke Why don't you use the N.W. 1 1/12 any more? I just got some but haven't caught any thing in them yet. Daubber sounds like your about right price range to me.

I love the 1.5 Northwoods. I just find myself reaching for traps with bigger jawspreads. Bridger 1.65s, Bridger #2s, Duke 1.75s. I just have incindental coyotes in the back of my mind. The levers come up really high on the 1.5 NW round jaws...they are just limited in jawspread.

1.5nwDuke, as you spend more time with Nittany Lion you will probably move those 1.5s into service for mink, thats what direction I am heading in.

Cathead, If Duke ever starts stamping out their 1.5 double jaws a little deeper...I will probably hook up with about 5 dozen of the things. I'm sure some will find their way into the Lion's shed too!! I thought about using them for mink and coon, but I love those little NW 1.5s and I'd hate too see them get stolen at bridges.

I hear that loud and clear on the theft. But on the flip side, I think if another coyote pops out of the trap while you are walking up to it, we may all lose a good friend due to a coronary ;D

Yes, the ones I have now were bought off of Ebay. I got 18 1 1/2's from a guy in Colorado 2 years ago that are unreal. While they are 1 1/2's, a Wyoming Gov't trapper replaced the springs on them, they are unbelievably powerful now. I have no idea what he did to them, but they are certainly beefed up!!
I do see more square jaws than round on Ebay. There was just a dozen went off yesterday for I think $76/doz. Those were square jawed and I didn't want to pay more than $6.50 a piece. With shipping, the price went too high. I'm trying to be patient...not something I'm good at!!! ;D

You are going about it exactly right Daubber, I do the same thing with Montgomery's, I have a set price that I will pay, when I see some I want, I put my max bid in and if some one wants them worse than that, they can have them. I have accumulated a ton of traps this way, you do lose more than you win, but sticking to your guns does pay off.
