Any tips ? here is situation , Not allowed to use bait. Can use snares virtually any where. I was thinking of soaking cottonballs or sheeps wool in XLDC and hanging in branches in a circular area . then hanging snares heavy. Think it will work or is this pointless? Besides trail setting , this is only type of set I can think of. HELPLESS IN PA.

Kiss,
snaring is a trail specific venture for me, while I have only snared deer and beaver consistantly, I have tried to bait or lure both of these species but with limited results...........

I know I read in a Russ Carmen book somewhere about creating scent stations out of 2 litre bottles and a strong scent for call. Why couldnt something like this be applied to snares? Sounds good in theory at least to me.

Jim, yes lures work with snares but nothing beat big bait station with snares all around.
You'll snare in Missippi hey???
The best thing you should do is, set foothold traps with lures and bait and keep your hands clean for hanging snares in trails only.
Good easy locations are: fencerow crossing trails, cow trails, some beaver dams are hot (cat), any old logging trails or ATV, bike, tractors etc...., trails who cross ditches are hot too....etc....etc.....
You'll see, its very easy. For me I know exactly where to look most of the time but you'll get the feeling very quick.
Good luck

Stef, How would you go about snaring on an ATV trail? One on each track?
Do you worry about breaking the outline of the sanre up?

Yep Coonduke, but make sure nobody will use that trail because you can get some trouble. permission are needed to do that, on public land, better not doing that.
Yes one on each track and make sure that a caught animal won't disturb the other snare(s) on the other track.
As long as the snare is dead center in trail, i don't play much with a snare, put a stick or two to narrow the trail but not much.

Thanks Stef . Edge , funny you said that cause I was just saying to Dan: Wouldnt it be nice to just have that one little box of snares compared to all this other stuff? I mean think about the weight and storage room difference. But fat chance on giving my legholds away. The other nice thing I like about snares is the ease of gang setting. Oh well , I will have to have patience I guess

Grawes lures make a snare paste lure that works good on canines I have used it for several years with good luck it seems to be more efective in late november and early to mid december then the coyotes loose interest. my 2cents worth. Roger
