joel, you think poor fur from age or sickness or just genetically inferior? I always wished I was a bazillionaire and could kill the slab backs and release the selects. I think in as little as one breeding season the quality of cats could be improved tremendously. If done over several years it would be unbelievable.

I agree with you Bob. My guess on this one is one or both of two things. One he is an older cat and I think they get kind of grizzled after breaking, shedding, and regrowing their fur. I don't know that I've ever seen a flat kitten is what makes me say that. He wasn't fat and everything else I've caught this year is rolling in grease. He was caught up in the corner of Nevada where Oregon and California come together and the gene pool up there isn't very good. It's kind of a breaking point where the Nevada quality starts to change to the California type animal. This particular area will produce all kinds of colors. The next set had a real nice big female that was much better than this one. I'll post a picture of her.

That looks like a Newhouse #4. Was there a squeaker at that set?

There was a squeaker at the set. Also one of Gunny's blinking lights.
Lone Juniper on a rocky ridge out in the middle of nowhere.
It isn't a Newhouse but an old cast jawed victor that I modified with a #5 paws i trip pan. Bubbled jaw tip with bronze, center swiveled, strong springs etc.
The other cat is in a 1 3/4 sleepy creek. Both ends of the spectrum.
I like to dink around with different traps.
