When using cams do you prefer 7 x7 or 1 x 19 wire? Why?

1x19 wire, it is tougher than 7x7 in my book and it gives you a really nice loop, I also like it better as it is very smooth yet holds up to wind much better without falling loops, this of course can be controlled with lock position but it does better in the wind and you add the "teeth" with a file and you have a solid lock up. I see less fur entrapment in this cable as well.

Musher, depends on the targeted critter. For coyotes, I love 1x19, holds a dandy BIG loop, allows me to keep the lock out of it's face. Now on cats, I've been playing with lots of cable and have to lean towards the 7x7, as I can load it to the point when fired 7x7 will nearly completely close on it's own if supported firmly. Yes you can load 1x19 and I do, however when it closes it closes to a certain point then due to the stiffness of the cable it stops closing....just my 2 cents...

Do you find one type of wire "quieter" than the other when the snare is closing?

I wouldn't say one is quieter than the other, alot of nosie comes from the lock and the vibration of the lock against the cable, the hoffman locks made some nosie, the keipers do as well, the cam is a smooth riding lock with little friction so either cable is fine for the noise issue.

I never notice the noise until I was setting a few "toothed" ones. Perhaps it was the teeth?

musher, I know you use 1/8 cable for your wolf snares. Is it 1X19 cable?
If so.... I can see why you have that friction. I don't think that its the tooth on the cam because 1X19 - 1/8 cable is so stiff that the cable put like a pressure on on the cam... Well, its what I think..LoL?

You're right about the 1/19. I never noticed the "zip" before ...
