I'm looking for the thread that contained photos of a stinger with a BAD on a snare
I got mail and it brought me a new snare system to build.
Thanks.

I might be able to do without the pics if i knew the following:
- do you wrap one end of the "s" hook BAD around the snare cable?
- do you have to use a single ferral to hold the stinget at the end od the snare or do you use a double?

I dont have a pic, but one side of the bad go's through the cam lock and the tag end of the cable go's through the other end of the bad. then I add a small washer the stinger and another small washer and the stop.

Perfect. Thank you for the replies.
Is it worth filing the cam when a stinger is involved?
I'm installing a 300 lb. BAD. This means aprox. 900 lbs. release. The target animal is wolf and I'm trying to avoid moose. That itty-bitty s hook sure looks small to hold a wolf. Trust isn't my strong point!
Thanks again.

all I can tell you is both Marty and WhiteMtcur (who uses a lot of stringers) file their camlocks.

Anybody try these on otter yet? Is the spring too strong for the otter to compress and get choked?

The eye patch deal that Edge brought up is very real!! when cutting a compessed snare off a critter I hold a heavy rag over the spring and stop. I think it comes off at more fps than a 22 rimfire.

I made a few up. They make a nicer shape with the BAD. I'm having a tough time with that s thing. I fear a wolf will pop it quick. My brain says don't worry but it's alot of work to get a wolf's head in a snare. I made more without BAD's than with.
One thing I find a pain is that the stinger puts a memory in the wire as you pull it through. I was using 1/8 1x19. It wouldn't be a problem with smaller wire.

Has anyone ever tried the stingers with any other lock setups?

Mush: I've been told that 3/32" should be enough to kill those wolves with the stinger. It's the whole idea behind the concept - just make sure to tie to something big and solid to allow the spring to compress. I made a few up. They make a nicer shape with the BAD. I'm having a tough time with that s thing. I fear a wolf will pop it quick. My brain says don't worry but it's alot of work to get a wolf's head in a snare. I made more without BAD's than with. I'm dang busy with work these days, so I'll have to make it quick... my apologies.
FILE ALL YOUR LOCKS
It is more than well worth it.
Stingers + 3/32 1x19 is all that will be needed for your wolves. I would also try the 5/64 1x19, with caution but also with confidence as the device is so deadly.
Use washers between the s-hook and Stinger, also between Stinger and end stop if using 1/16 or smaller.
For wolves, Do not use coyote rated BAD's. A wolf will generate much more poundage than a deer. BADs that let deer go will also release wolves.
For the wolf trappers, I have a commmercial s-hook BAD, rated at 350 lbs straight pull, which will pop at 900 lbs + when in a loop.
The Stinger will still be a little snug fit on the 3/32" but functionable.
The 350 lb /900 lb commercial s-hook is also quite snug on the camlock hole but will be functionable for Stinger accomodation, and hopefully will have BAD value for moose, elk and grizzly.

If it's putting a memory in your cable when you pul your cable through the stinger . could you put the stinger on before you put on the end stop . then you wouldn't have to pull the whole length of the snare through the stinger . maybe I don't understand what you mean .

I do put the stinger at the end of the cable just before the last stop. The hassle is that you have to have a long length (8-10 inches) of cable so that it will bend enough to go through the stinger. Once the stop is on I pull the stinger snug. That's what puts the curl in the wire.
