I picked up a new farm for trapping reds today. Its about a 100 acre farm...most of it is surrounded by a small river. This part of the farm has everything...various crops, cover, hedgerows and obviously water....it looks "foxy" The property is kind of tear drop shaped and the part not cut off by water is only about 100 yards across. There are no access bridges...This might sound stupid, but will foxes travel this area knowing that they only have one way in and out. I'm a pretty decent fox trapper but never encountered a set up quite like this one. Anybody's thoughts and input would be appreciated.

I don't trap a lot of fox, more coyotes, but I do observe fox and sign almost on a all year basis. And I've learned 2 things.
1) Water and canines: Water bothers coyotes in no way. They cross creeeks at will, and use crossing logs very very rarely. Fox are the opposite in my opinion. They adhor water crossings, and will avoid crossing water unless very shallow, and if there is a crossing log, will use it regularly. I see these 2 things occur regularly throughout late fall and winter.
2) Both will go where they go... IF THEY HAVE A REASON FOR BEING THERE.
Meaning that on your piece of land....if they have a eason to go to the narrow point- food, cover, ?..... then they willindeed go to places that seem restricted or lack lots of access.
In fact, for coyotes and I guess fox although my fox are more incidentals in these later years- Thats the 1st thing I ask myself in setting up a property. WHY would a coyote come here...and if he would, is it on a regular basis?
