Steve, I knew an old farmer that was having coon damage in a particular cornfield. He grabbed his cage traps and went trapping. Tried every bait he could think of. Nothing worked, couldn't catch them. He finally did get the sow and her pups. I asked him what he finally used, he said he put a piece of corn in the traps. Caught all of them in a few nights, no more problem. 1 corn cob in an ocean of corn cobs and that's what it took.

Coons are like people when it comes to food, some eat anything and everything and others are picky at times. Ive tried just about everything but finally went to dry food type with a soft tube on trigger. I put dirt hole sets next DPs at times when they go quiet. Also set DP at an angle where coon reaches in the DP bar catches coons paw on bottom side of foot pad at wrist. No pull outs there.

I am a fan of a silicon tube on the trigger it makes a Big difference in cold weather. I also run all my Dp at a angle in my head think it is easier for a coon to reach in and fire the trigger. Lots of time I think a straight up and down dp is knocked over by squirrels and Grinners. Only time I have a pull out is a wrap up in wire I did not see. I treat all my Dp's like a snare I don't like them to wrap up on anything I want them free wheeling. Heavy cover is for 220's.
