We didn't have near the type or amount of violent crimes then either. When dealing with meth manufacturing your dealing with highly explosive chemicals, far more armed criminal activity and lots of it is gang related.
Again sure numbers are up but for a reason. Wee could either have more dead criminals or more dead cops take a pick?
So by the word "murdered" do you mean unjustified killings by police or people killed by police in the act of crime and the intent being to cause death to our law enforcement or a combination of both? there IS a BIG difference in my book.

I mean just what I said- violence by the police is increasing, and so is the use of police as paramilitary force.
I live in Podunkville, and I see the change in police attitude here- no wonder the trend is against trusting the police, rather than trusting them.
and no- not all the cops or even the majority- but the trend is there, and its getting worse.
some want to have a discussion- others like you, wish to bury their heads in the sand as the situation escalates slowly and surely
and if people standing 20 feet away from cops and gunned down doesn't fit your definition of murder, than nothing will

Tman I live in podunkville as well and I do not see anyhting your talking about , 3 miles away is a town of 6,000 I see no tanks or swat vehicles, 12 miles away is a town of 10,000 people no swat units or tanks or riot gear either. now if a meth lab is found they bring in the county sheriffs and DEA and do their thing again dealing with what is at hand I see no worries in such, but our police officers are not in riot gear and they look the same as they did 30 years ago. High crime areas yes more firepower and more equipment because of the types of crimes they deal with are far different daily than us in podunkville USA for the most part. The stats are there for proof. Your link reeks of bias Tman look at the top of the page he still lives with the ferguson issue good grief, he is anti cop why not report the tens of thousands of calls each day by our law enforcement where they help and assist and save lives? Instead he wants to being up a totally legit shooting which was ferguson the facts proved that out along with testimony. Love this link LOL. thefreethoughtproject.com/irans-supreme-leader-trolls-police-brutality-twitter-hashtags-ferguson-jesus/Really we now post what Iran thinks about ferguson? good grief. Iran has nothing to do with our law enforcement and better clean their own backyard first and foremost ! Iran the country that just put out a video showing one of their bombs shown blowing up a model of a US air craft carrier? Yeh buddy that is who I will listen to on the ferguson issue............ One can choose to get their information where ever but this is as bias as it gets and the words free thought are anything but free thought !

Some may wonder why we have a more militant style of law enforcement in larger cities this should answer a small part of that!
Story highlights FBI foils alleged plot by two men to join ISIS; a third allegedly helped finance the journey Suspects talked about carrying out attacks in the United States, complaint says
(CNN)Abror Habibov, 30, operated kiosks at malls along the East Coast. He sold kitchenware and repaired mobile phones, according to a complaint unsealed Wednesday in federal court in Brooklyn, New York.
Last fall, Habibov hired Akhror Saidakhmetov, 19, to work at kiosks in Savannah, Georgia; Philadelphia and Chesapeake, Virginia.
Abdurasul Juraboev, 24, a Uzbekistan native and legal permanent U.S. resident, worked at the Gyro King restaurant in Brooklyn. He asked his boss whether he could leave this weekend because he was traveling.
Until their arrests Wednesday in connection with an alleged failed attempt to join ISIS in Syria, Saidakhmetov and Juraboev appeared to live the mundane lives of ordinary Brooklyn immigrants.
They also appeared careless in planning their alleged plot. One man, for instance, showed up at U.S. Homeland Security offices to apply for a travel document, authorities said. They sometimes communicated online because they believed it would be harder for authorities to trace.
Juraboev allegedly discussed assassinating President Barack Obama, according to the complaint. But he told an FBI agent that he "currently does not have the means or an imminent plan to do so."
Juraboev and Saidakhmetov, authorities said, planned to embark on the journey to Turkey on Wednesday.
Read the criminal complaint against trio
'This is real' One of them discussed the possibility of hijacking a commercial flight to Turkey and diverting it "to the Islamic State, so that the Islamic State would gain a plane," the complaint said. They also talked about joining the U.S. military in order to attack soldiers.
Juraboev and Saidakhmetov were arrested in New York; Habibov in Florida. They face charges that include attempting and conspiring to provide material support and resources to a foreign terrorist organization, the complaint said.
"This is real," New York Police Commissioner William Bratton told reporters. "This is the concern about the lone wolf inspired to act without ever going to the Middle East or the concern of once they get to the Mideast, acquire fighting skills, capabilities and then attempting to return to the country."
Saidakhmetov was arrested Wednesday at John F. Kennedy International Airport attempting to catch a flight to Turkey, authorities said.
Juraboev, who was to catch a later flight, was arrested at his home in Brooklyn. Habibov, who Bratton said "helped organize and finance" the operation, was in Jacksonville, Florida, when he was picked up.
In addition to threats against Obama, the suspects allegedly talked of killing U.S. law enforcement officers. Juraboev allegedly mentioned planting a bomb at Coney Island if ordered to do so by ISIS.
An FBI intelligence bulletin to state and local law enforcement urged officers to be vigilant for not only recruits, but people who may want to carry out attacks.
'Ham-fisted tactics' "These individuals highlight the continued interest among U.S.-based violent extremist to support designated terrorist organizations," the bulletin said.
Outside federal court in Brooklyn, attorney Adam Perlmutter, who represents Saidakhmetov, said his client will plead not guilty if indicted.
"This case really makes us question the federal government's approach ... to young Muslim men in America," he told reporters. "They are very ham-fisted tactics. There is no attempt to intervene, to speak, to explore, to understand. There's just the rush to prosecution, to arrest, and to conviction."
Attorney: 'Ham-fisted tatics' used against Muslim men Attorney: 'Ham-fisted tatics' used against Muslim men 01:44 PLAY VIDEO The arrests come at the same time that a federal jury in Brooklyn hears testimony in the trial against a Pakistani man allegedly involved in a separate al Qaeda conspiracy to carry out attacks in New York and Europe.
In the case against the three Brooklyn men, court documents said two of them posted parts of their plans on an Uzbek-language website, believing that the communications would be harder to trace.
Saidakhmetov is from Kazakhstan and a legal permanent U.S. resident. Habibov, who is from Uzbekistan, was in the U.S. legally but overstayed his visa, police said. Authorities began trailing them in August 2014.
The three men lived in Brooklyn.
Talk of killing President Obama Saidakhmetov and Juraboev were to appear in Brooklyn federal court later Wednesday; Habibov in federal court in Jacksonville.
The names of lawyers for Habibov and Juraboev were not immediately available.
In a conversation recorded by authorities, Saidakhmetov said that if he was unable to get travel documents to Syria, "I will just go out and buy a machine gun, AK-47, go out and shoot all police," according to the complaint.
Saidakhmetov told an informant that carrying a gun in the United States was legal.
"We will go and purchase one handgun ... then go and shoot one police officer," he is quoted as saying, according to the complaint. "Boom ...Then, we will take his gun, bullets and a bulletproof vest ... then, we will do the same with a couple of others."
He said, "Then we will go to the FBI headquarters, kill the FBI people."
In a written statement in the Uzbek language, Juraboev allegedly speaks of killing Obama for "Allah" but notes he doesn't have the means to do it.
"I also want to fight and sincerely become a martyr under the Islamic Caliphate," he states, using another name for ISIS.
On his journey, Saidakhmetov allegedly "proposed finding an excuse to gain access to the pilot's cabin and diverting the plane to the Islamic State, so that the Islamic State would gain a plane," the complaint said.
'Enemy of Allah' In November, Juraboev and Saidakhmetov also expressed interest in joining the U.S. military in order to pass information to ISIS about American airstrikes against the terror group, the complaint said.
When Juraboev said he was skeptical that Saidakhmetov "could stay calm and avoid trouble in the military, (Saidakhmetov) responded that he could always open fire on American soldiers and kill as many of them as possible."
In another conversation, Juraboev allegedly criticized Saidakhmetov's plan to join the military, saying that "leaving for Syria would be the most feasible choice."
In intercepted online communication, Juraboev said his parents were in Uzbekistan.
"Sometimes they worship and practice Islam, sometimes they do idolatry," he said, according to the complaint. "My sisters are uncovered, lack knowledge of a religion. I wish they knew at least how to cover themselves up."
At one point, Juraboev called Obama "an enemy Of Allah," and says, "I will execute Obama."
On February 21, Juraboev sent his employer a text message: "Brother I want to leave my country next weekend. Because I have some problem. Is it possible or not? Sorry!"
Saidakhmetov allegedly told a confidential informant that he intended to wage jihad in Syria but that his mother -- fearful that he would do so -- took his passport. The suspect then said he would try to get his passport back by telling his mother that he was traveling to Uzbekistan to visit relatives.
On February 2, Saidakhmetov brazenly appeared at the Department of Homeland Security offices in Manhattan and filled out an application for a travel document and had his photograph and fingerprints taken, the complaint said.
Young people and ISIS Saidakhmetov and a confidential informant at one time watched videos of ISIS training camps in Syria, the complaint said, adding that Saidakhmetov said he was going to "become a Mujahid on the path of Allah" in war-torn Mideast country.
The complaint said Saidakhmetov on February 19 purchased a round-trip ticket for $571 to travel from New York to Istanbul, Turkey, on Wednesday. He was to return on March 31.
In Brooklyn, the travel agent who sold him the ticket on February 19 said Saidakhmetov picked the cheaper flight with a connection in Kiev, Ukraine, rather than paying $900 for a direct flight to Turkey.
"There was nothing out the ordinary about the transaction or him," said the travel agent, who asked not to be identified. Saidakhmetov purchased the ticket using a New York State ID.
His flight on Ukraine International Airlines was to depart at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Saidakhmetov had earlier told the informant -- who he believed was traveling with him -- that if detected at the airport he would "kill a police officer and use the officer's gun to shoot other law enforcement officers."
Young people are featured in the ISIS propaganda, including a recent video showing boys in camouflage and ISIS bandanas learning hand-to-hand combat.
The militants have repeatedly promoted videos using high-level production techniques to celebrate their brutality. A short mash-up clip in September played like a trailer for an action movie, with slow-motion explosions and flames engulfing American troops.
"There's no question what we're combating with ISIL's (U.S. government acronym for ISIS) propaganda machine is something we have not seen before," U.S. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told CNN. "It's something we need to do a lot more work on. We are seeing 90,000, I think, tweets a day that we're combating."

Your picture shown is what is used for one that want to carry massive firepower and some with automatic weapons, drug dealers, extortionist, crimes of that nature among others. Tman I have yet to see that in any small town I have lived in yet. if it warrants such to keep others close by safe I am all for it. Most of what I see walking downtown St Louis are either blue dressed cops or under cover all the way style. Not the swat wagon loaded down with guys in hardware, are they needed in some cases? Sure they are but their not dressing like that to go serve a warrant for unpaid parking tickets Specialized groups used for circumstances outside the normal.

Tman here is why Kc police have a swat team and use more military style door knocks. Kansas City, Mo. BACKNEXT kansas city missouri highest crime Crime index*: 2.13 Population: 461,456 Murder rate (per 100,000): 23.4 Overall, Kansas City's violent crime rate is the ninth highest among big cities. Aggravated assaults were prominent among the city's police reports and unfortunately, so were murders. Kansas City reported 108 murders in 2011, up from 102 the year before. That gave it the dubious honor of ranking seventh highest among the nation's big cities in terms of homicide rate. Try going to troost and prospect or 18th and vine and see what takes place there, bet you don't spend an hour in those areas? In KC shots get fired every single day, every day in the iner city and the law enforcement needs to be a bigger presence in these areas and othes in the US because of the crime and the people committing such, Barney fife style will get you killed in a hurry in the law enforcement arena in areas like I mentioned. We won't be finding this in podunkville for awhile Paired with police work from Kansas City's finest, some high tech is helping to curb gunfire in City of Fountains' urban core. In the first six months of 2014, gunfire in the area where the ShotSpotter gunshot detection system is installed has decreased by 26 percent. The system monitors roughly 3.5 square miles near the Troost MAX bus line. (The Troost MAX bus line travels from Downtown to the Crossroads Arts District, Hospital Hill and south along Troost Avenue to Bannister Road. Gunfire incidents in the covered area fell by 25.9 percent — or 55 fewer incidents — when comparing the first half of 2013 to the first half of 2014, the Kansas City Police Department reports. ShotSpotter, which allows police to respond faster to gunfire incidents, employs multiple acoustic sensors throughout a coverage area from as small as a single square mile up to more than 20 square miles. The acoustical sensors are paired with audio analysis software that identifies in real time the unique signature of gunshots and other loud explosive sounds. In addition to the number of shots fired, the system identifies the number of weapons used and the address of gunshots with accuracy within a few feet. It also compiles a gunfire incident history and analyzes patterns. More than 50 large U.S. cities. use the system, created by Newark, Calif.-based SST Inc. ShotSpotter was implemented by a partnership between the KCPD and the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority in October 2012.

I saw it in my town 2 years ago- they were bringing in SWAT units from Duluth!
and its happenning all over- overreaction, because the police are being trained to BE a military force- and they were NEVER meant to be that
and you ARE part of the problem, simply because you refuse to accept the problem- or even acknowledge its occurring
and thats quite evident, by you thinking shots fired in KC, or anywhere, has anything to do with the discussion
and I fully understand- its mainly blacks that are being killed by the police, and because of that, you see no problem.

Tman why did they bring in SWAT? because they use some tatics and gear used in military actions they are now military? I think not. there jurisdiction is still the same and also some of the thecniques make for safer exactions for both the police and the criminals. The GOAL is not to kill but to send everyone away from the conflict alive. Shots fired is directly apart of the issue Tman, because the loss of life does not hold the same meaning as it once did. Law enforcement has to be on their toes more and the chances for risk of such is higher one are facts. mainly blacks please good grief The race card is a joke when discussing what we are, clearly the facts show many white people are incarnated as blacks, but when you go into certain neighborhoods which are more black your going to have more of th crime in that area being committed by blacks, urban population sectors they are all over the US. We have parts of KC that are primarily Mexican well guess who is causing most of the crime there? Guess who causes most of the crime in the urban white areas? or the urban colored areas? I work with inmates from the Mo State prison each and every day spend 35 hrs a week with them, all races and from all sectors of the state , talking with them you get a good idea on what is real and what is spin by the media. Some of these guys have been shot multiple times guess how many by cops? It is the environment and actions they choose to pursue that gets them in trouble in the highest majority of the cases. many own up to that which surprised me. Look at the social and economic factors in the larger urban areas and then look at where these shootings take place easy to figure out not a race thing at all, police searching for black Americans to kill? please. Again Big Mike follows orders big mike is still alive today, case closed.............

comments like that drive home the point-that your understanding of what the discussion (not here, but nationwide)is, is non existent

Your graph means little where is the information pulled from? Again you seem to forget social and economic factors come into play with imprisonment along with an education as well that is just fact.
To think because of some Graph that more white are let go because of skin color? Nope not buying that at all simply on the charges. sadly many cases come down to who has what money for an attorney as well. I know guys that have the same charges and are serving much different times and many have gotten out of the same types of crimes in the past due to having the funds for a good attorney and those that get a public defender. Makes a big difference as well.
so if your Grapgh showed more white imprisoned that would set this issue well then?
Wonder why their is less change between white and black females? If this was clearly a race issue wouldn't we see a much larger incarceration rate for woman as well?

Tman you posted that the police kill more black men than any other. Did you not?
each is a case by case basis you can't throw out a number without knowing th facts behind such. Nor can one lead to a conclusion that we have an epidemic of innocent black men being killed on the streets daily. Just not presenting the facts but showing people the bias they want them to see by such statements.
Again I work with inmates from St. Louis, Kansas City and from small Podunk towns all across the state. Some are multiple offenders and some are first timers, when they leave, where they go and how they conduct themselves in daily life will either keep them out or send them right back in, that is the key and that is where Socail economic factors come into play into your graph which does not show any of that and the root of the problems.
You go back to the same people, the same area and doing the same things as before skin color doesn't matter your going to be back. Your graph shows that by the little change in any set numbers of skin color not changing much over those 7 years.

yes, of the total number killed by police, the majority are black. that is a fact.
and it is also a fact, that the majority of those black men, are killed by white police officers.
but that is neither here nor there-
lets look at things that are true- and I won't debate them, nor try to convince you- they are true, and any time at all spent by yo uto confirm them, will show thme to be true-
1) the increase in police caused deaths is increasing 2) crime rates are going down 3) most cops, have never shot their gun, nor are prone to violence and are good people 4) some cops are prone to violence and are bad people
truth- fact- undeniable
5) Between 2002 and 2011 the Department of Homeland Security disbursed $35 billion in grants to state and local police.
6) The Pentagon offers surplus military kit to police departments- by 2005 it had provided such gear to more than 17,000 law-enforcement agencies.
7) SWAT teams were deployed about 3,000 times in 1980 but are now used around 50,000 times a year.
fact- truth- undeniable
very seldom for serious crimes, these SWAT teams have been sent in for misemeanors and minor crimes more times that not (please, spend a few minutes research this- and seeing how these SWAT teams are being used i nsmall towns all across the country)
the issue isn't race (it only comes up when people try to justify things by pointing out it happens more to blacks in big cities and a we can see, that moot and is only a race issue in that regard)
the issue- is that there seems to be, based on evidence a steady, widespread increase of miliary type weapons, tanks, armored vehicles being given to, and thus used, by police forces big and small, and along with this, the attitude of the police seems to be changing into a paramiltary type police action force, and no longer being there to protect and serve.
thats it- thats the discussion- all your red herrings and personal accounts aside- THAT IS the debate point.
and if you disagree that the above is occurring- and then please respond to that by providng facts or points of disagreemnt based on that issue-

Tman crimes going down? I posted the information from a non biased source that clearly stated the information gathering is less than ideal and does not give us any true numbers as far as violent crimes either way FACT.
You seem to be worried about the plight of the colored man and death in the US by cops where cops are more worried about crime and the amount of such turning bad.
The military offered surplus because it was that or melt them down correct? I have no problem if a law enforcement agency can use such for the safety of the public. This started in 1990.
the reason is simple Tman we have events like school shootings, business shootings, the Boston marathon bombing, the Timothy McVaey issue in Oklahoma City, terrorist comming into our country and the police in many areas have to be more in tune with these issues in all cities. 9/11 and what could have happened even further, this all falls on faster response from local law enforcement agencies versus our federal govt. Who where the first responders to 9/11? The NY police and firefighters.
News Local news Breaking News Update: Man surrenders to police in Lakeview barricade situation SWAT teams called to Lakeview apartment Quinn Ford, Chicago Tribune Police taped off a large perimeter between Southport and Greenview avenues and from Addison to Roscoe streets due to a barricade situation early Feb. 28, 2015. CAPTION SWAT teams called to Lakeview apartment Quinn Ford, Chicago Tribune Police were called to the 1400 block of West Cornelia Avenue about 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 28, 2015 for a report that a man had barricaded himself inside an apartment after a domestic argument.
Man surrenders after hours-long barricade situation that drew police and SWAT teams to Lakeview apartment A man surrendered to police after barricading himself inside a Lakeview neighborhood apartment Saturday morning for more than four hours.
Chicago Police Department SWAT teams were called about 3:15 a.m., to the 1400 block of West Cornelia Avenue where the 28-year-old man had barricaded himself inside an apartment following a domestic argument, said Officer Ron Gaines,
The man, who was possibly armed, was alone inside the apartment. Police had taped off a large perimeter between Southport and Greenview avenues and from Addison to Roscoe streets.
As of 7:25 a.m., the man had peacefully surrender to police and was taken into custody, said Police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.
Estrada said no one was injured during the incident.
STONE MOUNTAIN, GA (WXIA) -- A DeKalb County apartment became the site of a SWAT team standoff early Friday after a suspected sex trafficker pointed a gun at police.
The result? The arrest of three adults, and the rescue of two underage victims – ages 12 and 14. Their rescue occurred at the end of a 3½ hour standoff with DeKalb Police.
"They had to go into an apartment, really not knowing what was inside that apartment other than there were children who needed to be rescued," said DeKalb County Police Chief, Dr. Cedric Alexander.
The children were believed to be victims of sex trafficking. When police knocked on the apartment at the Park at Hairston Apartments in the 1000 block of Hairston Road in Stone Mountain, one of the adults believed responsible came to the window and pointed a gun. That's when the SWAT team was called. Following the standoff, two men and one woman were arrested.
"Human trafficking, false imprisonment, statutory rape, child molestation, aggravated assault, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and interference with custody," Alexander said, detailing the charges against the suspects.
Even more charges – and more arrests – could be coming. Police would not release the suspects' names, because those suspects are believed to be related to other trafficking cases around the area.
"Quite frankly, we're only at the tip of this, and we suspect that more activity like this goes on in the community," said Alexander.
About this time a year ago, a federal study singled out Atlanta as the metro region with the highest sex trafficking trade in the country. Now, this case, where a standoff with this many flashing lights might just be the start.
While the two young girls rescued from that DeKalb County apartment are safe, they have a long road ahead of them. 11Alive’s Kaitlyn Ross looked into what comes next in getting them help they need. WXIA
"We need to be able to understand the importance of being a voice for these young people if they are indeed potential victims," Alexander said.
One note about where this happened: this apartment complex, just southwest of Stone Mountain, has hundreds of units. Police say it can be difficult for neighbors to notice something as suspicious even as sex trafficking when so many people are going in and out at a given spot.

Is this the SWAT team being called to your town? If so I could see why they where called in.
LAKE CITY, Minnesota (WXOW) - As of Tuesday afternoon, the officer who was shot while responding to a call remains in critical condition in a Rochester hospital.
A Lake City police officer is in critical condition after being shot Monday morning.
Multiple crews responded to a report of an officer down around 8:40 a.m. on the 600 block of West Lyon Avenue. The officer was responding to a domestic situation.
At a news conference Monday morning, investigators said the officer was shot in the head and is in critical condition at Saint Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
The neighborhood near the scene has been evacuated, while crews try to make contact with the suspect inside the home.
The Lake City Police Department has identified the suspect as 25-year-old Alan J. Sylte Jr. of Hager City, Wis.
Investigators think Sylte is armed with a small caliber handgun. He is described as 5'11", 195 pounds with blue eyes and short blonde hair. He was last seen wearing a short sleeved, light colored shirt.
Sylte is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached by the public.
Crews say they believe Sylte is still in the home on Lyon Avenue, but they have not been able to make contact with him yet.
Several schools including St. John's Ev. Lutheran School, Lincoln High, middle schools and Bluff View Elementary have been locked down. Doors to the buildings and classroom doors are locked, shades are drawn and students have been told to stay away from windows.
Officers and deputies from all over southeastern Minnesota are on the scene, including Lake City, Goodhue and Wabasha counties, SWAT Teams from Olmsted and Wabasha counties and the Minnesota State Patrol.

on the above- seriously, you know why they were called in?
Tell me- cause I live 2 blocks away, and watched it all- tell me exactly why all the SWAT teams, and special equipment from Duluth were called in?
what were the circumstances on the ground? What was the rationale, and what was done in order to carry that out? What and when was the endgame?
btw- none of this is in any way pertinent to the discussion. and I've given up trying to get you to address the issue- it is, it seems, like the old joke about the roof...
but I'm hoping that some that read this that started out with your view- are at least considering that I might have at least some credibility to what I',m posting. ditto on the keystone thread
