Quote: "With world championships, perennial contention, a pipeline of homegrown players, beautiful ballpark [and] continuity on and off the field, the Redbirds embody the blueprint for every team, not only in baseball, but in sports. I commend [owner Bill DeWitt Jr.] and his entire organization for building an era of Cardinal baseball that is a fair reward for the St. Louis fans, whose unwavering support continues to amaze. I really -- I wanna say this. I go to all 30 cities, obviously there’s supposed to be a neutrality, but I’ve said this many times and I’ll say it again: You are the best baseball town in America, and there is no doubt about it." So said Bud Selig!

Selig has overseen a lot in his 22 years and many of those years as an owner as well. He understands baseball and the game very well in my opinion and yes St. Louis would be a good example of a community that supports a well run team and organization. Several major issues have crossed Selig's table, such as PED's moving teams to other leagues (Milwaukee being one), umpire call reviews, Rose, calling an alstar game that was tied etc. etc. I believe he has done that job very well and baseball learned an important lesson the strike season and fan base has finally come back. Will be interesting to see if the pitch clock comes on board soon. As a commissioner and owner demonstrated to me that the other team owners felt he could be open and transparent in dealing with the issues at hand.

No pitch clock this year in MLB, maybe next year. Will take some getting used to for sure. yes Selig did a good job through the years and it sounds like the new commish Has some things he wants to keep baseball moving coward with.
hoping cards may have had a chance with scherzer but not at that price tag! The Nationals better hope for a World Series soon and he keeps his health as that is a pile of cash for one arm! he was a Missouri boy and played his college ball at Mizzou, I guess looking back declining the 140 million from the Tigers was smart in his part.

They have piloted the pitch clock so the teams know the drill. Selig hand picked the new commissioner so I am sure that they were in agreement on some of the future issues and concerns.

I did not say it was or is Steve and now with all the PED juiced stats it makes his gambling look less problematic to me. We allow those players to be nominated to the HOF but not Pete? Being a compulsive gambler to me is a different issue than knowingly taking drugs to enhance performance but then that is why I am a fan and not a decision maker. I am sure the Black Sox scandal of 1918 is one reason the league is so against gambling as that almost caused the league to fold.
To me the current NFL issue with the under inflated footballs is a huge deal as the game is now a passing game and the "feel" of the ball along with very strict defensive limitations caters to passing and thus teams being allowed to provide their own footballs in an era with passing as the way to win demonstrates some real need for change in how equipment is provided and reviewed. Baseball went through the home run craze in the 90s and even though people were questioning how "eye high" pitches or pitches below the knees on the outside of the plate were sailing 450 feet they still cheered for the HR.

PED guy's might make the ballot but will be a LONG time before any get close to the votes they need and when they go so long they are off the list. So really many do not stand a chance to make it.
Rose did himself no favors at all when it came time to talk about the HOF he denied those allegations for years which meant he was lying about it just like PED guys have done. Also betting on his own team was not smart at all he could have an outcome be it betting for them or against them. Doing things out of the norm because he had his money riding on the outcomes of "some" of the games. his strong denial for years gave him a major black eye by many.
Could have been handled differently by all involved but Pete knew what he had done and kept denying it for many years.
Is he a HOF sure is, but gambeling on the team he managed well, that would open up a large can of worms for future ballot HOF people.
Arod, Bonds, Clemens and many others will never see themselves in the HOF either. IMO. You cannot ever put in people who did what they have and the heavy price to pay today for such actions, the HOF would lose all credibility if they where allowed in. baseball would lose much as well.

so, if when the NFL finishes their investigation- if NE won, will (should) they forfeit the title?

What probably should happen or will happen are most likely two very different outcomes. I am betting that the league will become the provider and watchdog group for the footballs used in games in the future. I feel they should have been all along. I can't see how they allow that sort of loose oversight and have painstaking watch over many other aspects of the game.

Tman follow the money! Godell and Kraft are good friends pictures of him at krafts home. The Super Bowl which I will not watch this year first in many, many I will not watch due to principal. So they are delaying such for the sake of the big show and the outcome will be a fine a large fine too many common folk, yet a drop in the bucket for Kraft is all that will come from it.Their so called ball boy will be the scape goat, I say scape goat because Brady isn't fooling anyone when when he says he has No knowledge of such. a pure farse plain and simple. they will keep the rings and title if they win and Kraft will get fines and Brady and Bill B shielded yet once again. Why because the NFL doesn't want either of their reputations tarnished for the sake of the HOF. Both which will be no brainers aside from the rule infractions both have been aware of, or directly involved in when the big games are on the line.
The loser will be the league NFL, as many people will see this as a direct means to circumvent the rules, add in all the concussion talk and the ray rice debacle and now the deflate gate and it knocks down the NFL yet another notch.
Wonder how the NHL would put up with a rule violation inside the playoffs or baseball finding such? betting some different than the NFL which is becoming more like the WWF each season IMO only. QB's and receivers receiving far more than the defense because they want to see high scoring and less importance on the defensive side of the ball. It seems the NFL is scripted by rules for the offense and especially passing offense, so then we have a rules infraction that is directly aimed at that side of the ball and we shall see what for punishment? will not fit the crime I have little doubts in that.
